Is it opssible to replace a W202 HU with that of a W203 HU? And still have everything in working order? Phone, ect?

All cosmetic problems aside I think you should distinguish between direct operation and steering wheel operation. The head unit probably works fine with button pressing on the radio. It wont have the correct canbus so it may not illuminate correctly or might fall asleep without CAN input and show an error message.

...it will not work at all...due to a lack of CANBUS info, the headunit will play for a couple of seconds and come up with PROD on the display...

won't work, won't light up, won't auto switch on/off, etc

get a 00+ headunit from a 208 or 210...there ae plenty of those available here on this forum.
