Can I upgrade my 03 CL CD based Comand unit to DVD?

I found this on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
And interestingly the guy said that is plug and play no modification needed.
Is it true? Can somebody shed a light on this?
thanks!

Nothing MB related (sorry)
Sure... if you are thinking of RECPLACING the entire wiring in your car from D2B to MOST, and you don't mind all the extra costs... Then it will work without a single doubt!

No, honestly, a new DVD based comand unit, which is for S and CL vehicles from 2005 and up, won't be 'just plug and play' for the older models. Not a chance!

The seller has only positive feedback. Actually he mentioned that fit only new models.

Has anyone tried this? I doubt it will be plug and play but how difficult could it be to get it going?

2003 CL55 AMG
The 2004 models use a totally different fiber/wiring bus called MOST. The 2003 and earlier used the D2B fiber system.

You basally would have to rewire your entire bus in the entire vehicle from what it sounds like.

Would cost a ton in time and material not to mention we still don't know if the end result would work.

Not worth it in my opinion.

Whichever one is available (1 of 5)
The ebay seller is correct. You plug it, you play it. Of course there is no modification (to the unit), you just need to REPLACE the entire wiring to make it work. This unit will fit any automobile, not just Mercedes as long as you get the proper TRIM and CABLES. The same ebay seller also has 05 COMMAND system for W211 for only $189.99. After looking at the photography, I just never seen that unit in any model W211 that I know of.

...That unit actually does come out of a W211 BUT will never work in a US spec 211 due to the fact that it has an integrated AGW instead of a separate external AGW (with which all US spec cars are equiped with) AND it is NOT a comand but just a bottom of the line audio 20...

So, would the 05 command work with the 04 wiring? (specifically an SL55) I would think the 03 and 04 are the same wiring since they use the same command unit but I could be wrong.

No, you are right. 2005 !! models come with MOST bus wiring. Earlier models, even the early 2004 models, have D2B wiring!

I believe they were referring to the SL, or CL, or S-class models. True, MOST was introduced in '03 on the E-class. At least here in the USA. It is being phased in to the other models now that they are getting the bugs out of the system. The C-class even has it for '05. Interestingly enough the SLR still uses D2B. I think that D2B is easier to work with as far as configuring the ring goes due to the red on one end, white on the other pattern, but everything else about MOST owns D2B technology. It has also proven to be quite reliable.
