Handbrake During the Winter
Guys, winter is coming here and I was wondering if it is safe to use the handbrake during the winter - for example, in -15C? The owners' manual tells us to use the handbrake every time we park our cars, no exceptions. Nothing has been mentioned about -15C temperatures...

It's fine. Why would you think there would be a problem?
It's actually in extreme heat that it is worse (especially when the rotors are hot) as it will warp them. |
It happened to me twice, that the handbrake was frozen and couldn't release the tires on -15C--20C. Therefore, I couldn't move... but that was on a 2003 car so I was wondering if this could still be a problem with modern cars...

Laws of nature are laws of nature. I suppse with temperatures THAT cold there is always a chance of it freezing with water and slush and snow getting in there...
Personally, I never ever use a parking brake. |
