What Did You Do to Your Car Today?

Being an avid car nut (I enjoy working on my cars), I figured that perhaps some of you would like to share your efforts on this thread. My intent is to perform the following this week once the weather up here in NE calms down:

- Replace engine air filter
- Replace cabin/combination filter
- Replace spark plugs

I'll post pics of each as they are accomplished. BTW: The dealership quoted me over $650.00 to perform the above-mentioned items. The indie shop where I purchased the car agreed to sell me genuine MB parts at a substantial discount so both filters and four plugs ran me just over $118.00. I'll take the $500.00+ savings any day!

So, the first service work I've performed since picking up the car a week ago included replacement of both air & cabin filters. Both were certainly due! Spark plugs should be replaced sometime this week.

Replaced the cabin air filter and the OEM air filter with the K&N air filter. I thought the C350 4Matic 12' Coupe had two filters, turns out it's one and it's a ***** to get that last torx screw.

Also getting the ECU tuned and a couple other things done. I'll post dyno results soon.

You shouldn't have to change the plugs until well into the life of the car (+80000 miles):nix:

Understood, however; replacement is quite easy and I've got the tools. It's also a great indicator on the engine's internal condition.

So, the car's been at the dealership for some warranty work which consisted of the following:

1. All lug nuts were replaced (originals were corroded).
2. Replaced all four wheel center caps (originals delaminated).
3. Driver's seat release lever replaced (chrome was lifting).
4. A complete new steering wheel was installed as the original trim was peeling off.
5. Driver's side marker light replaced.
6. Complimentary wash/vacuum.

She looked quite stunning when I picked her up this afternoon!

So I finished installing new lower control arms/ball joints, etc. on my 84 Porsche and since there still was light outside, I figured that the coupe's spark plugs could be changed in time. Man, am I glad I looked into this...

Two plugs had a fair amount of corrosion on them and they all looked pretty used up. At 38k miles, these probably should have been in better shape. I think I spent about 1/2 hour performing the entire job (that's including measuring appropriate gap, wiping down everything and cleaning up my work area). Is a driveway a work area????

Anyway, I did notice a drivability improvement during the test run so I'm glad I replaced them.

That would seem somewhat more practical than installing a Halloween decoration on the front of a beautiful car..........................

Being totally anal... I decided to replace the engine oil although I still had a few thousand mile left. The oil was super black so no time to waste!

My original idea was to perform the service myself as I do have an "Awesome set of tools!' Total parts costs came to about $60.00 however; the local dealer offered to change the oil for $100.00 so I figured, why not. I still don't have the correct jack block that's used not to damage the lift points and it's getting pretty dark after work (with the clocks being turned back). Got a free wash, vacuum and they filled the washer fluid reservoir.

Dealer - We Owe

When I went to sign for my new C350 last week I noticed some scrapes and road rash under the bumper. Not uncommon for a four year old car but for a certified pre owned vehicle I said it should be fixed and quite honestly think it happened between when I test drove it and when I purchased it. So they said they would repair it free of charge. Looks like I'm driving a C300 loaner for the next day or two. I want my car back. Haha this thing is slow and I had to YouTube how to turn the radio on lol.

today I drove my daughter to school........pretty soon I'll be going to the gym with my other kids, after that I'll probably come home and hopefully have some alone time with pornhub

pfarah77 11-19-2015 08:18 PM

Had two new rear tires mounted, balanced and had the tech perform a four wheel alignment. The dealership matched the lowest competitive price I could find so I ended up saving almost $300.00!

They also gave me a brand new E350 4matic sedan as a loaner which was quite nice however; I admit that I enjoy driving my coupe better... The rear wheel drive, sport suspension and lack of all those damn driver aids result in a more engaging experience. No offense to the E350 owners out there but that vibrating steering wheel (lane assist) is pretty annoying...

I got my front bumper vinyl wrapped to mimic the amg look.
