Spark plugs, gap, missing hex screw, etc...
secondly, do you know the size of the star socket to remove the spark plugs?
third, i am missing a 5mm hex screw on the spark plug cover. seems the cover takes 3 screws and i am missing one.
any responses would be greatly appreciated.

as for the size, unsure- make sure the plugs you have are in fact the ones for your engine and get whatever socket fits those.
5MM allen socket is typical all over the car, don't worry if one is missing, no big deal. Get another one from hardware store.

I doubt that the tools your are using measure spark plug gap to 0.001"...
Either way, the gap you are measuring now is not important, the actual gap of the three pronged spark plug is set via. torque when the plugs are installed. Therefore it is important to use a torque wrench and torque to 20 - 30 Nm (15 - 22 ft.lb).
The other reply is correct, no special fastener is required, but if you want it to match the factory style you either have to 1) go to the dealership or 2) find a C230 in the scrap yard and negotiate for the fastener. My guess is that you will have to buy the cover and the three fasteners from a yard... but that may still be cheaper than buying a new fastener from the dealer.
Hope that helps.
