C230 Kompressor Oil in Air Intake box

So yeah, I was reading somewhere in the internet that oil in the air filter box is a nono, so i decided to do an air intake cleaning/ intercooler cleaning, replace oil separator, replace MAF because of the oil on the MAF sensor. Anything else I may have overlooked, since i am doing some time this weekend or the next. Much appreciated. Also heard maybe weak supercharger (Kompressor). Any leads into that situation?

You also have to replace your PCV system, which is the MOST important of them all!

cause

what causes oil to get into the air filter systems? I'm guessing the air filter system is where the air filter is located (housing). Is that right?

I think there are different ways, but i was told it is the Oil separator, since my 1999 C230 Kompressor does not have a PCV valve, and if there is, i want to see the picture what it is located, some people say there is but im not 100 about it. Also could be a weak supercharger, I can't be sure, but for sure your complete intake system and inter cooler should be cleaned thoroughly and check Mass Air Flow sensor before it craps out on you

Breather valve ...

I've had the same problem, one contributor is also a clogged breather/oil separator. The problem is that the valve is underneath the intake manifold (almost directly between 2&3) and thus is easily ignored/missed. The valve has two vacuum lines attaching to the block and one line running down to the oil pan.

You can get the valve at the dealer, be prepared for the vacuum lines to be brittle and break (from miles of soaking heat off the block). With the lines off its a good idea to have mechanics wire or some thick gauge wire to try to clear the nipples from the block of carbon. The official instructions call for removal of the intake manifold but if you have small hands, are a good contortionist, or know a mechanically inclined child you can avoid intake removal. Also, might help you to do this while you do an oil change as having the filter cap off gives just a little more clearance.

BTW, before you replace your MAF again try cleaning it first. You'd be surprised how many sensors can be saved with spray electric cleaner (right next to the brake clean at your favorite auto parts store) - no need to pay more for the MAF Sensor Cleaner, it does the same job (some get away with non-chlorinated brake clean - through I wouldn't recommend it).

2002 C230 Kopressor Coupe
I read this thread and cleaned my MAF!

I bought my wife a 2002 C230 Kompressor 2 weeks ago, so after I saw this thread, I removed the MAF and cleaned it with "Tuner Cleaner"which is an electronic cleaner that leaves no residue after it dries, and will do it again later after I clean the intercooler and change the breather.
Could anyone give me more details about that breather? Photos if possible?
Regarding the intercooler, is it an easy DIY? Anyone knows the steps to do it?

Would the camshaft adjustment solenoid seal leaking oil cause the PCV valve to be clogged and cause oil to be pumped into intake track, and foul the Mass Airflow Sensor? Just wondering if the Service Campaign for replacement of the solenoid might also cover the MAF.

2003 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe
Hi Guys , I’m having oil on the supercharger intake side not the air filter side. I checked all the piping and noticed the clamps were loose. Now I took them apart cleaned them and hopefully that will stop the leak but it was a lot. Now this is the plumbing coming from intercooler and into supercharger. I have a 2003 C230 Kompressor 1.8 .I have seen in the passed some oil but not a lot like the car had. This little car has 218,0000 miles and runs great with out fouling the plugs and or any smoke out the tail pipe. The check engine light turns on and off ocationally. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated....

Clean oil separator and make sure it is working. Also what you can do is remove the piping going to the airbox and put a small airfilter on it and close up the hole in the airbox.
And the MAF must be coated by the oil leaking into the airbox and might be giving the MAF a hell to trying to read the air, and therefore giving you the CEL.

I have been running this setup for about 3 months now, and I got no more oil and a bit more Umphhh from the engine. No more oil in intake.

What size filters did you use?

and a Crank-pod filter that is with 25mm connection.

It is not a legal setup, but what the heck. Rather this than needing to get a new MAF and cleaning ALL the piping all the time.

Legality goes out the window, when oil cleanup is involved lol. Is it not legal because of the oil being vented to the atmosphere?

every Mercedes that gets parked in my bay
Of course...imagine his car dumping little drops of oil everywhere he drives...that's 1 car...now imagine thousands...hundreds of thousands...now imagine all that oil on the track... on a rainy day

Pcv systems became mandatory in like the 60's.
