Driver's door lock broken

Hi,
My car is a 94 C220 and the driver's side door lock does not work anymore. I can insert the key, but it would not turn right or left
at all. I tried forcing a little bit without success. I'm afraid to try harder.
If one lock needs to be replaced/fixed do all other locks need replacing aswell and get a new set of keys, or can they replace it with a lock that works with the old keys.
Any idea on the cost ?
Any help appreciated.
Thank you.

My ignition switch did that about a year ago. They can just replace the lock and you will not need a new set of keys. When the dealer orders it go ahead and get a spare key. It is only 10 more dollars when you order a lock opposed to 30 if you just order it alone.

Thanks for the answer. Do you remember how much it cost you ?

600 dollars. They had to drill out the old switch and put in the new one, which is not easy. I think the part was about 175 dollars.

Expensive...
I just called MB (Canada), the part alone is C$174, special order from Germany they said.
Like you said no need to get new keys, they program it to work with the existing keys.

There is an outer protective piece on your lock that sometimes will loosen and "float" left to right. This happens on my passenger side lock so what I did was take a large flat head screw driver and put it in the key slot (barely) and twisted it back. You will notice the whole round outer part of the lock will move. Hopefully this explains it to a certain extent. Have any questions give me a shout. Moreover, if this is totally not your problem then please ignore.

You could also get a basic Keyless entry system installed for less than the $600 that was quoted above. Most run under $250 installed (w/o alarm).

I had a Subaru once where the same thing happened. The dealer quoted me $375 to fix the lock. I just had an aftermarket keyless system installed (P&L) for $100 and was on my way. I never used the lock again.

Great idea. Anybody had this done in the GTA on a W202 ?

if the locking cylinder itself is intact you can get a lock from a junk yard and use the parts to rebuilt yours....not easy but probably cheaper.....
