99 c230 axle issues..only have 1st gear
I have a 99 c230k that had a blown rear and shot axles. It is a factory traction control car. I replaced the rear, and replaced the axles but could not find the correct axles with the reluctor rings on them. (not spending $800/ea to get them from the dealer). So as a temporary fix until I could find the correct ones, I just put some used non-traction control axles in. In my head the worst that was going to happen is that I would not have abs or traction control.
Well I finish it all up and take it for a test drive only to find out that it will not shift out of first gear. Is this just the way it is or am I missing something. Are the reluctor rings also used to send wheel speed signals to the transmission to tell it when to shift?
any insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks
