1995 c220
1995 c220 oil in coolant tank.
Was wondering if it's my head gasket? Dropping a new radiator in it in the next couple days. Was wondering if it could be that? Car only has 99k miles on it. Temp gets up to 100c sometimes. Usually when idleing for a min or driving in town when its 95f out. Someone please help!

Yeah my head gasket blew today on the highway. Is there much to taking it apart and replacing? I'm sure the head needs to be machined if not replaced. But is the head difficult to get off to replace gasket? Any special tools?

I had exactly the same (C220 1995). nearly everyday I was removing oil from the coolant. I put a sealant in and it lasted about 30k miles. There's quite a lot of bits to remove.
I was quoted around £400 plus the bits. With oil, filters, coolant and a complete gasket set ( not to mention getting the head skimmed approx £40)the price was more than I wanted to spend on a car that old. It served me well at 320k miles though. It was still running when I scrapped it
I live in Wales and the garage labour rates are so cheap. I would imagine prices elsewhere are much higher.
The gasket kit alone is roughly £100 (non MB) and the head gasket on it's own is about £50.
If you do it yourself , you need plenty of time, a decent tool kit and good working conditions (not like me at the side of the road!, or in a car park; Tesco's must hate seeing me pull in!)
I would guess now that £800 to £1000 wouldn't be a shock quote.

C220 head gasket replacement
Be sure your mechanic knows how to set the tensioner coreectionly when he replaces the belts to drive shaft and cam shafts. Mine didn't. The head of one camshaft sheared off. Not a pretty sight.

Wow I almost forgot about this. My mechanic didn't know this either, and I drove away with a high-pitch whining noise. He claimed it was "normal". I searched this forum, found the tensioner reset info, drove back to his shop and made a **** fit until he said he'd fix it. He first told me it would be 3 weeks before he could look at it again. Let's just say, that's the last time I used that shop.
