96 C280 M104 Starting/Running/Noise problem
Hello,
I've searched high and low but this problem seems unique. It's my daughters car. After sitting for two days she said it would turn over but not start. After numerous attempts, I got it to start with symptoms of flooding, i.e. it took several attempts but finally caught. Black smoke and rich smell but it improved. At idle it sounded like it had a lifter tick. I brought it up to 2000 RPM to see if the tick would clear. Upon decellerating, it had a funny noise that sounded like a slapping timing chain or some other rattling noise and it stalled. I did not want to start it again in case there were any mechanical issues. It is not displaying any codes on my OBDII reader. I know that CPS's typically fail but usually after it reaches operating temperature. Thanks in advance.
