c280 door handle broken

The inside door handle on my divers side is not working. It appears to have separated from the mechanism. I now have to roll down my window and open the door from the outside to get out of the car.
Has anyone had this problem? Will the entire door panel have to be removed to fix/replace this?
If so, I will probably bring it to a dealer, any ideas of the cost? I assume it’s at least an hour’s labor.
Any information would be great.

Thanks
John

The door panel is easy to remove if you want to take a look at it yourself.

i don't have pictures, but first you need to remove the rubber handle. im not aware of any technique to do this except to pull it off. most likely than not you're going to break it. but anyways, there are two screws inside the door handle you need to remove. I've only taken apart the rear doors, but there should be a hidden screw somewhere also. in the rear it's under the Airbag sign. Just look around the door and check around to see if there are any more screws. after all the screws are removed, gently pop the door panel off around the bottom and side edges. the top edge is held on by a....hooking action so i would recommend first popping the bottom, then the sides. once those sides are popped off, LIFT the panel off. you will then see how the mechanism is fit onto your door
it's basically a...rod connecting the handle to the lock. try it and if ur having trouble, post pictures and which problem you're having. you can e mal me or contact me through aim for help if you need.

If I remember correctly, there are 3 srews.
1 is hidden under the chrome handle plastic trim (pry it off)
1 is in the armrest, and the other one on the plastic trim around the door lock mechanism. The panel then just pops out.

I'm not that handy John, so I would bring it to someone, but never the stealership (my mechanic is in Stonham and my body shp's in Medford). GDawg recommends dealer Hatch and Sons in Wayland.

Thanks Eddie. I am glad to see such a MA presence around here!

My brother-in-law also recommended Hatch & Sons, they have a great reputation.
I had to bring my car into the Mercedes dealership yesterday to have my radio replaced (waited 4 months, they were on backorder). I showed the service advisor the door problem and even though the warranty recently expired, (January, but only 44,000 miles) she felt pretty confident that Mercedes would cover it due to it being something that this was pretty unique. They would have fixed it yesterday, but they didn't have the part. She is going to get back to me on Tuesday to set up another appointment. I really hope Mercedes does cover it. It's not the price of the part, but the labor I am more concerned with. I'll keep you posted as to whether or not Mercedes covers it.

THANKS ALL
John
