Sticking needles in instrument cluster
i though someone once said the pens themselves need to be cleaned with a q-tip to remove the oxidation from age
sound right to anyone ?
mb C-220, 1995
Where did you hear this from?
The pins that hold the needles of each gauge? Oxidation?
Where did you read this?
Do you have photos of your issue?
Perhaps you are not explaining yourself clearly. How does any "gauge" stick on the resting pin?
The older style clusters with "resting pins", latter MB designs do not have them, are made with non-metallic materials (ie. typically plastic, alloy in some cases), the speedometer needle is plastic.
There is no oxidation that I have ever seen or heard about. That's not to say it hasnt happened or how it even occurs, but as I said, where did you read up on this oxidation on MB clusters?
These instrument clusters are sealed pretty good to prevent dust, etc. exposure/filtration of cabin dust onto the gauge face-plate and needles. If you've ever taken one apart, you'll better understand.
No need to remove any "face plate". You're probably referring to removing the (clear) plastic cover (shell) of the cluster body. This cover separates the "face plate" dials gauge cluster from sticky prying fingers, sneezes, spillage, dust, pretty much anything you throw at it.

i did I not explain as I should
the point where the needle on each gauge rests on a plastic pen seems to be the point where the sticking occurs
you would think this “ resting “ point would not be an issue but I have been told from others that it can be
