RECALL: '98-99 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I don't know if this has been covered but I found it today on Consumer Reports...

'98-99 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Problem: Battery could explode.

Models: 65,731 cars with Hoppecke battery made 4/97 to 6/99. Hazard exists because battery maintenance schedule might let too much time pass between servicing to maintain proper electrolyte levels. Low electrolyte levels could cause battery to spark or cells to rupture, possibly resulting in explosion.

What to do: Have dealer inspect and, if necessary, replace battery. Dealer will also provide labeling for owner's manual and engine compartment that reminds owner and service technician of the need to perform periodic maintenance.

MB only had 2 recalls for all these years. Other car makers had A LOT of recalls! Go MB!

You can do a search in the forums to see if things have been covered.

MB's 2nd was...

'97 Mercedes SL

Driver's air bag could deploy suddenly and unexpectedly, causing possible loss of vehicle control.

Models: 4,402 cars made 6/96-7/97. Hazard exists when car is operated in areas of high humidity, which could cause ignition filament of gas generator to corrode and airbag to deploy spontaneously.

What to do: Have dealer replace air-bag module.

Out of all the car makers, Chrysler had the most (30) with Ford right behind them (23) along with Mercury (19). Again, MB only has 2 known. That is damn impressive! BMW had 12 and Audi 7.

Another Recall

The first year MB made the ML320, there was a recall on a crush washer. I believe it was for the power steering fluid. My father had a first year ML and got his fixed for free. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression this was a problem with most first-year Ml's and was a MB recall... correct me?
