Cabin air / Pollen Filter - My experience

When it comes to change your Cabin Air Filter make sure you buy the activated charcoal version versus the paper type version(Mann). It makes a whole lot of difference. The price difference between those 2 are only about $10. Trust me, it's worth it.

With the paper type, you can smell almost anything from the outside. It makes your driving less enjoyable when you are stuck between an eighteen wheeler and a construction dump truck on the highway. You are breathing the diesel fume out of the exhaust.
One time a guy in the car in front of me was smoking a cigar and I could smell it like I was in the same car with him.

With the activated charcoal version there is no noticable smell even without the recirculation button on.

Question

Thanks for the info. At what mileage did you switch yours and where is it located? My other ride has it under the hood. Thx.

It's under the glove box, passenger side. If you remove the panel under the dash, you'll see two plastic tabs towards the left of the blower motor.
Slide the tabs outwards and remove the cover, the filter is there.
15 mn job max.

You are supposed to change that once a year or every 20K miles.
When you puchase the filter the installation instruction is usually included.

I changed mine recently, after 80,000 miles and it was black...pure black, pretty gross. I thought the dealer would have chaged it at some point, like 60,000 mile service bu it didn't look like it.

I highly recommend people check theirs, it is super easy to do.

Yes, just be carefull when you move the tab. It tends to fly off. I had one of them flew off behind the steel plate on the passenger's foot well.
