What to expect from a '95 C180?

I am an American woman in her 60s who jumped off the cliff and bought an ancient stone house in a village in Provence, about an hour north of Marseille. My plan is to go here winters to escape the much colder Maine winters where I live the other 8 months of the year and then rent it as a vacation house the rest of the time.
For the 4 months I'm here, I'm in need of a car but I didn't want to spend a lot because of 1. timing, the renovation of the house is of course, like all renovations double what I wanted to spend, and 2. because I'm going to be here a short time every year. So after looking for months and losing money renting a crappy Renault Clio, I'm pulling the trigger on a 1995 Mercedes C180 with 129,000km (about 80,000 miles) for 2000E which is about $2080 right now. In France you have to get a technical certificate no later than 2 months before the sale of the car. This must be done at a government approved control center, they do not do repairs too though often the center is located at a repair garage. The controller has 133 checkpoints which involve the following functions:
  • Vehicle identification, e.g. vehicle documents, number plate
  • Braking system performance and physical condition of pads, discs, hydraulic lines
  • Steering system, e.g. geometry, stability, free play
  • Visibility, e.g. windscreen, mirrors
  • Lights, reflectors, direction indicators
  • Axles, wheels, tyres, suspension
  • Chassis/body damage, corrosion
  • Auxiliaries, e.g. seat belts, horn (audible warning)
  • Emissions, e.g. pollution, noise level
My Mercedes ownership in the US has consisted of a 1999 E350 that I bought brand new in '99 and two used '08 E350 4Matics and a used '04 CLK320 Coupe. What should I have a heads-up on with this car? I know old wiring can be an issue but currently in the US, I also own '94 F250 4x4 (bought 6 years ago with 113,000 miles now has about 122,000) and a '81 Porsche 911 3.0SC Targa (bought 8 years ago with 95,000 miles now has 107,000) that really, neither give me much repair trouble. But what do I need to kn ow about a '95 C180 soecifically?
