Autoweek article on 2006 C350
It says in the article "There are no plans to bring a diesel-powered C-Class to the States".
Too bad, because they also say "Because of the prodigious torque—at launch you’re pushed back into your seat—the car feels faster, and driving some twisty mountain two-lane roads back-to-back with the gas model, we preferred the diesel".
IMHO, it would have been nice to see that C320 CDI here. Are you listening M-B USA ?

I also think they will slowly increase the price of the C Class bringing it closer to the E-class leaving room at the bottom end for the introduction into the US of the B-class (probably at around $27K - $30K) which has been delayed, again due to the low value of the $. With the B-class you will again see 4 cylinder engines.
This is all just speculation and my opinion. I might be totally wrong, but I have seen this kind of behavior before from automakers, just before they bring in a cheaper model.
