Dude... you are now the forum hero! Well, except for... mbbodytech who stirred the pot to begin with.
I know you were excited, but I hope you asked about us guys in the forum that were interested in ordering a key. I guess it wouldn't hurt to call your dealer and ask if I can order one. I'm thinking if I FAX a copy of my title, my drivers license, and have him ship the new key "Signature Required" to the address on the title, and drivers license, that should be proof enough.
Yeah, even the "old" OEM keys have 4 color choices (if I remember correctly)... black, green, red, and blue. I always use the black one. I usually end up chunking the other colors. I should probably save those in case the next owner of my car wants a different color. Oh well.

but I have the option of switching to one of the many others any time I choose.The 2007 keys don't have the logo on the back, they are all like this. It does look a little plain I think.

The dealer needs the owner to be there to issue a new key. I think they need a copy of the title of some other documentation as well. It's $200 here in orlando.

Yeah, no way I want it for that price. Maybe $100ish I would buy it, but not high on my priority list anymore. I want Hands free communication system with voice control system and COMAND installed. There goes about $5000...

The only difference in keys would be if the car has keyless go or not and if so which version it has. (there are several) So, the key part number for a C would be exactly the same number as an SL if the SL doesn't have keyless go.

If I still lived in CA, I would in a moment. However I live in frozen MI now, (OK not frozen yet) and the dealers around here SUCK on any level. But if you have someone you prearrange with the dealer to sign for the key and fax the documentation they may go for it. It all depends on the people at the dealer.

It completly astounds me that the dealers are so ignorant about such a simple thing. The only thing that matters is whether or not the car has DAS3, which all current production cars have. And the keyless go part too, but that's it. I guess it goes to show how stupid Americans are! (as a whole that is) There are so many times I'm embarassed to be an American. Instead actually trying to think for a moment and accepting that is is possible, most just shut the whole thing down because they don't want to deal wtih it. That is terrible.

Is it possible to order this key for other models rather than the C-classe? For example for the W210 -02? Right now I have the small key with a chromestar on the back.

I had an '07 loaner and it had the key... has a nice weight to it.
