Tunit Diesel Performance Chip Review
The car used was a 2005/55 Reg Mercedes C200 CDI Automatic.
Here Goes.... Fitting was easy just a case of removeing the key from the ignition (this is very important in order for it to stop any problems occuring with the emgine management system) undoing the oil cap and pulling the plastic cover from the engine, most people with older mercedes or possibley different engines will likely find they will have to find some bolts to remove the engine cover.
After removeing the cover it's a case of just disconnecting the plug wich goes into the long cylinder shape part of the engine (someone on here will most likely know the proper name for this part
) and putting in a wiring loom wich one part of the wire goes into the fuel tube the other part into the disconnected part of the original wire and then finaly ending up into the chip itself. After all that is done you need to get a liitle creative and figure out where to run the wires I have routed them off to the rear of the engine with the chip located near the battery compartment, but wherever you decide to route them you should put the chip in a dry (cheap is apparently waterproof but I wouldn't want to take a risk) cooler place idealy with some protection to stop it from vibrateing against other parts of the engine.
The unit is about the size of a mobile phone and has a turnable switch/selector going from 1-9 the number 1 being the lowest power and most fuel effeceint and 9 being the highest power but the least fuel effecient the unit comes preset on 5 wich for most people may be enough with a good compromise between the power and effeciency.
The drive is instantley much smoother and power band seems broader and more torque is also noticable but on level 5 I to be honest couldn't see that big an improvement for the price, but if you are not entirely happy with the power do what I did and go up a level on six you notice a fair bit better gain (I couldn't resist and had to leave it on 7 :v) the gains are much more impressive you can realy feel alot more pulling power the acceleration is alot better so to be honest I am pleased with the device although very expensive they do offer a try before you buy scheme so If you dont like it you don't have to have it!!!
aswell as that tunit also offer a trade in scheme where you can swap your units if you do get a different brand of car but a mercedes chip will work with all mercedes CDI engines and smart car engines.
So all in all I will give the unit 8/10 this is a good upgrade but I feel it should be a little cheaper, however the gains are good power is improved engine feels smother more keen to respond and the fuel economy will be better usualy gaining around an extra 2-3mpg.
