If it's true - then yes, I'd say it's worth $1700 for 30hp in the M271. Have them show you the dyno's to prove it - with a name of "Dyno Comp" they should have them.

Might as well get a C32 or C55 instead of spending more and more money on engine upgrades. Thats my opinion.

Those are Renntechs products, they are no longer listed on their website! I'm not sure if you can still get them or not.

Not only that where did to you get 35 lbs. of torque from ? (12+15=27)

Using a little common sense, the answer to your question is pretty self-relevant..

First off all you guys doing the additions that's not going to work. If you a pulley on a car you're going to need to re-do the ECU. It's not ECU gains + Pulley gains. So I think the guys there mean if you install the two together you'll get different gains. Seems pretty obvious to me...

While of benefit, you do not HAVE to reflash the ECU when you install aftermarket pullies.
While the 1.8 is not a bad motor overall, modifying it, esp. with the cost of parts for it...is just silly, IMO...save the money and use it to buy your g/f something extra for x-mas...Willing to bet you'll see a lot more on your investment then this little 4-banger can do for you..

Well ofcourse you don't have to to reflash it. But it be much better to tune it with the pulley installed cause then it would be made to function differently.

uh... that was almost clever except tuning doesn't work like simple addition. there's a synergistic relationship between increasing boost, opening up the exhaust, tuning the ecu, etc.

Well, cummon you guys keep knockin down the "little 1.8 4 banger" when then other "little 1.8 Honda 4 bangers" are producing more power Naturally Aspirated. You guys have the give the M271 a chance. It's got tons of potential, we just need the right tuner to give it a go! So far no real takers!!

My Little 2.0 Subaru WRX 4 banger was pushing over 320 at the Flywheel with about $1300 worth of mods...

cummon now!

But that in itself is my point..it's not a Japanese four cylinder and is a whole lot more difficult to modify in both terms of cost of modifications and ease of installation (i.e. getting the computer not to display some random error message) then anything other 4 cylinder I can think of on the market..

Ah, the intelligence. Now, maybe if you had any clue how engine mods work, you would understand that 90% of the time, you can't just "add up" the gains.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if the numbers are true. Of course I have my doubts though until someone shows a dyno. Which I should have for the ASP pulley (yes, for the M271) here in another week or so.

The M271 does have potential... just all the companies are taking years to develop something with decent gains and prices... whatever happend to the EvoSport pulley development? Wasn't there a thread just for it not too long ago?
You can make the m271 pretty fast, it all depends how much money you're willing to drop. You can just go do a fully custom job on the engine if you're willing to spend that much...

I have a Dyno Comp near me and have been in the shop. They claim the following:

Mercedes
RENNtech
C 230 Power Upgrades
1.8L, 2.3L

2.3L (up to 2002)
230 HP (+38 HP)
240 TQ (+40 TQ)
Includes:
Computer Upgrade
Supercharger Upgrade
Exhaust System.
$2195...Complete

1.8L (2003-06)
217 HP (+28 HP)
225 TQ (+33 TQ)
Includes:
Computer Upgrade
Supercharger Upgrade
Exhaust System.
$2195...Complete

They claim to perform before and after dyno runs right in the shop. Thier shop is very nice and has "The ONLY All-Wheel-Drive Dynamometer Tuning Facility in the State of Arizona."

The upgrades look expensive, but tempting.

Totally agree with you. We got to give the 4 bangers some chances, cuz I've got a M271 1.8 . Going to add a K box to it.

ECU Upgrade for = 995
Supercharge Pulley Kit Upgrade = $1,195
Take off faster then a Accord 3.0 for you = priceless
Do they accept Master Cxrd ?

yeah i tottaly agree that the m271 has potential. like some other person pointed out honda has been making tons of power out of their 1.6L, 1.8L 2.0, and 2.2L 4 bangers for years now, and from the factory and without the need of a s/c or turbo. those little 1.8L intergras could easily push 250hp with modest upgrades, slap a turbo on that sucker or even better on the 2.2 H22a and uve got urself a beast, granded its fwd, none theless, impressive. so im sure that the m271 in our cars can gain more than just 30hp with almopst $2k of mods. does anyone know anyone that has REALLY pushed the engine? i mean raised the boost significantly? changed headers, etc? to see the REAL potential? i would love to give it a crack but i need $$ and i dont want to void my warranty yet :-P
