'03 C-Class cheaper?

Well dealer called me today and said the '03 C-Classes are here and will sell me one (C240) $500 cheaper than the '02 I got three weeks ago if I take delivery from this shipment. So it seems the prices remain the same, or maybe '03s are just cheaper.

I doubt that the 2003's will be cheaper, something else is going on: either someone wants the other car, or MB gave the dealer a deal, or something else all together.

Drive both and let is know what you think. We're all curious!

Cheers,

Beth

The base prices of the C240 and C320 are cheaper because the automatic transmission, Tele-aid, and auto-dimming mirrors are no longer standard equipment.

Less Expensive C: From what I understand

the cars have been decontented making them seem less expensive but they have less features as standard so, as a result, they are not as cheap! as the prior year's C.

Are you sure that C320 will have a manual transmission? Haven't every 320-MB had automatic?

Yes, it will, and yes it has.

A 320 with a manny will be a much better 330 competitor (even MB's manny!).

The six speed C320 won't be available until December or so, but the base price has been changed.

My guess is that they are looking to increase their sales volumes so that they can get more vehicles allocated to them later.

A nearby GMC dealer was doing this when the new Denalis first started arriving. They were selling them at a discount so that they could get many more vehicles later.

Will the manual also come available to the other 320-MBs such *** E and CLK for example. I think that many would prefer the car with manual - but not me. All in all it would be good if people could also choose the manual.

Finally got around to seeing the '03 C240 today. It was equipped w/ the same options like my '02. The price was a special offer to me, and only available if I took delivery of this particular vehicle. Apparently someone ordered it and changed their mind. From what I was told it will sell at the same pricing as the '02 cause the dealer isn't ordering any stripped vehicles unless explicitly ordered by a customer. Didn't drive it, but it has the same engine/suspension so probably performs the same.

Its funny how MB dealers won't budge on pricing down here in Miami, especially since they still got '02 stock. I'm eager to see what Porsche dealers will do when the '03s arrive; there are huge surpluses of '02 stock especially on the Boxster S. I saw an ad this Sunday for a 39mo Boxster lease w/ 4g down for $399. Thats a deal, I paid $3g down @ $600 for a '99 36mo back then.

At least they're making the cars less expensive...not just eliminating standard equipment and charging the same price...

Generally true, although the Automatic transmission was never standard equipment on the C240. Automatic was (and still is) a $1400 (roughly) option on the C240.

I wish the C320 would have been available with the 6 speed when I bought my C240!

I concur, I probably would have considered the sedan harder if the 6-speed had been available on the C320.

Cheers, BT
