Help! I got a weird message on my display today!
 

When I was checking the oil level using the computer, normally it tells me "Engine Oil Level OK"

Today I got a message that read "Perf. Service On Time"

I checked the manual and nowhere did it mention this statement. Did anyone get this message? What is it? What do I do?

I did get the same message when checking the oil level via the computer. It seems to come on when you are close to your next service date. Look at your miles to next service on the FSS screen...you should be close - maybe within 500 to 1000 miles.

I just checked the message on the computer again. This time the "Perf. Service On Time" disappeared and "Add 1 Litre Oil" came on.

Should I add the oil or no? I've heard rumors that the computer is inaccurate and we should use the dipstick instead right?

I would check the dip stick and go with what it says. The computer seems to be off - according to what I have read on these forums. Unfortunately for us sedan owners, if we dont go out and buy one...we are at the mercy of the computer. Car without a dip stick seems weird.

i've had that message come on as well, but i'm nowhere near service mileage. i just ignored it and checked the dipstick. as long as it's ok there and not too dirty, dont worry about it.

As I understand it, the "perform service on time" message comes on when FSS is unable to measure your engine oil, either because the car is not on a flat surface or because the ignition has not been off for a sufficiently long period of time.

i had that messege too. I was within 500 miles of service B. Had them check it. They had to order a new oil quality sensor for my car.

Now, wait a minute... I remember MBTech208 said once that the M111 engines don't have oil quality sensors, only level sensors... Who's right?

i had that "perf. service on time" message too and the service indicator seems to be stuck at "next service at 1200 miles" for 2 weeks, although i drive 250 miles or more a week!

what gives? if the coupe really has an oil quality senser does it mean that the senser is broken and it's unable to correctly calculate the service due time and hence my car will be stuck at next service at 1200 miles forever??? :confused:

I belive this is a correct explanation. I've gotten this message when trying to meassure the oil-level right after switching the engine off. After I waited for ~5 minutes (to let the oil drain back into the pan) I got an "oil level ok" message. :)

i got that message "perf. serv. on time" right after i had changed the oil yesterday. i'll go check it again.

i checked my oil using the computer and it said something like only check it on level ground. i think it was like that.

It was in my freakin garadge with completly lever ground.

i've just check it again. now it says "o.k." when i check the oil level.

I was reading the owners manual last night and here is what it said about the "Perf. Serv. On Time" message. "....message.....will be displayed if the required waiting period has not been observed after stopping the engine:
-with engine at operational temperature approximately 5 minutes."
page 136 and 137.
So, i guess it has to do with when you perform the check after you turn off the motor and/or if the computer can measure the oil level - if the car is level or not, rather than how many miles you have left until the service is needed.

I guess you can find out alot by just reading the manual. Hmmmm.

Ah, the owner's manual... Can't live with it, can't live without it!:D

Is it me or wouldn't it make more sense for the message that comes up in this situation to be, "Check oil level again in five minutes."

Well, it could say that, but I think this is more a classic case of RTFM.

I RTFM'd and it wasn't in the c230K coupe manual.

That is not what the coupe manual says. It says, "The message "OBSERVE WAITING PERIOD" will be displayed if if the required waiting period has not been observed after stopping the engine:
-with engine at operational temperature approximately 5 minutes."


So it isn't as simple as RTFM.

And you'd be absolutely right.

Never saw it till they changed the oil.
