Question What is factory torque setting on pulley?

Hi, Fellows.

I am planning to get an ASP pulley and install it myself.
Does anybody know the factory torque setting on pulley?
Is there difference of torque setting between factory & ASP Pulley?

Thank you in advance.

Kleemann posted 220 ft-lbs before. Seems kinda high. Check with the dealer. I don't have a torque wrench so I did it by the seat of my pants. Hasn't fallen off yet.

220ft/lbs sounds about right. Remember this is one big bolt holding on a large hunk of metal spinning at high speeds. There are at least 6 flywheel bolts and they are tightened to 100ft/lbs.

I ordered mine today! Lee at ASP said it would take about 4 weeks. Get your orders in early. I know others manufacturers have them in-stock, but I am willing to wait.

Post picture: ASP pulley

Got mine yesterday... here's a picture of the pulley, a belt - 560K6 (this designation means: 56" length, 6 grooves) and a hockey puck for size comparison (Canadians don't understand inches, so here! )

Still in search for the exact setting torque for the pulley bolt.

I learned something very interesting on a saturday morning car shows this weekend. Torque for a bolt is a spec that depends on a certain lube specification. They torqued a bolt with the proper assembly lube and it had the right down force of about 130,000 lbs. but they used ordinary oil and torque it to the same spec and it was at about 98,000 lbs.. way below spec. So if you are going to go the whole 9 yards and torque it properly, make sure you lube the bolt with assembly lube and the washer side that faces the bolt head and not both sides of the washer to get it correct. You may already know this but it was news to me.

Also, after you get the factory spec, ask Lee to see if there are any adjustments you need to make for an alloy pulley vs. a steel one. It may be that 220 lbs. is too much force, I don't know.

My bro-in-law was rebuilding a Chevy 396 and torqued the head bolts according to the instructions. Problem was, he put Loc-tite on the threads and ended up overtorqueing the bolts. The cylinder bores became oval shaped and the block needed to be rebored.

I'll do it myself, all tools needed are here. I'll try to document it w/pictures, but Buellwinkle has already prepared a manual:

And thanks!

Benzy, you're alive! What ever happened to your old car? Did your mechanic get it running again? Did you blow up the Lexus yet?

haha...yes...im alive...the benz....haha...that car is back totally stock now....sad....but true....

he got the engine rebuilt and everything running....tried a custom turbo setup on it....ran a 13.5....the stock clutch went to pieces!

he then got all that tuned out but was having some really bad AIT's so after nurmerous times of trying to get it worked out...he decided to put it back stock and let his wife drive it...

as far as the lexus is going....oh yeah man...the car is a dream!!!

i would not have it any other way! i will get some pics up pretty soon of my setup and how its running....i also have a few videos as well to get up....

hows life been here on the boards? anything new happening?

My car is holding up well. It was running a little lean at full throttle (13.5:1) so I had the ECU settings to Stage 3 and 91 Octane changed and that cause misfiring and lost 17hp so that is being change again today to "base" octane and Stage 2. Hopefully that will work. Several board members bought the ASP pulley, a few have received them and I know of one that installed besides me. Too bad your mechanic couldn't produce a s/c pulley for the masses.

What turbo did he put on (T3?) and how did he fabricate the exhaust manifold? Any pics of that setup? What power did he produce?

he used a small mitsubishi 16G turbo, he had it custom fab. in miami fl (someone he knew) and was producing 314 rwhp.

he might have some pics...we are not really talking anymore....

see..when i sold him that car...the deal was he pay me half, and then once he got it back up and running he would pay me the rest...well...he never paid me the rest....

i have a lawyer that is writing everything up for him...i hate to sue people (even more so with friends), but he has not returned none of my email, faxes, phone calls, or anything....im really not wanting to take him to court...just hoping that he gets scared and sends me the rest of the money....

This new pulley you are talking about ASP...who made it?

When you were last on the forum a group of us got together to come up with a group deal on a Kleemann pulley. Two problems I encountered at the time; 1) the Kleemann pulley was months out, 2) the dealers were afraid to make a deal that would offend Kleemann and possibly lose their franchise. So I started talks with ASP Racing and AEM, probably the two largest pulley companies in the U.S.. Both were willing to do it but ASP seemed to understand it a little better. So ASP agreed to make it for the group and the rest of the forum. It's not for sale to the general public through the dealer network or website or even their 800# order line. You have to call ASP directly and talk to Lee. They are made to order and nobody wanted to pre-commit so they take 4 weeks to make. The billet T6061 aluminum looks good though and it's only $350. I have detailed instructions with pictures around the forum somewhere if you want to see what it looks like.

Originally I've got was 197hp and 214 ft-lbs torque at the wheels. Since the ECU changes it's been way down. The 108 degree heat doesn't help matters either.
