Rear Bumper

hi, i recently got into an accident. well i shouldn't say me but my cousin was driving my car and backed up into my dad's car so rite now the bumper is dented and has a long line where the paint cracks are. since he is paying for the damages i was thinking if i should upgrade to the 2005+ rear or not. is there any comparison pics of a 2003 rear sedan bumper and an 05+ rear bumper? i've tried searching but nothing came up and i've checked the post pic of car tread and most of the pics don't work or its mostly front shots. while searching i came across this thread talking abuot switching the turn signals in the side mirrors to w208? or w211?? do they change the color from orange to white?

How bad is the damage? - Can it be repaired? - I'm looking for an 03' bumper & I have an 05', so if yours isn't that bad maybe we can swap? Post pics of the damage.

Nice, Randy. Only thing is, you can't be parking that thing as close to the curb as you did in some of your photoshoot pics...LOL.

Good luck with the project and hope to see the finished project sooner than later. Unfortunately for me, my body kit is gonna be a pain.

I don't understand, you're going to make your cousin pay for your new upgraded bumper? You're going to stiff your own cousin?

Just make him pay for a regular stock new bumper, not an upgraded aftermarket one.

Although I can understand if you want to stiff him, since he damaged your car when you were nice enough to let him drive it.

Is the '05+ sport bumper more expensive than the '01-'04?

no no, its not like that. i wanted to see comparison pics to see if the bumpers are that much of a difference to persuade me to upgrade. i was planning on paying the difference if it wasn't that much.

anyone know more info about the side mirror blinker thing?

It's easy to tell the difference between the two rear bumpers and whether it's worth it. Look at the rear of a C32 and look at your bumper. If you like your bumper better, then why not upgrade.

As for the sidemirror blinker, you can change from the frosted ones that are currently on your car to the w211 or the 2005+ updated blinkers. Updating to the w211 blinkers I believe requires slight modification. 2005+ blinkers are just straight swap. Do a search to find out more 'bout that. It's been discussed several times.

I assume that the 05 bumper is either the same cost or more than the 01-04 bumper.

The rear bumper is probably a bit less important than what we think. Since we don't need rear diffusers on the car (unless you drive constantly above 100 mph). The front bumper with the air dam does make a difference.

Some aftermarket bumpers are actually worse than the stock bumper. The Lorinser front and rear bumpers actually are worst aerodynamically than the stock. So just because Lorinser is the most expensive, doesn't mean it's the best. It does have a unique high-profile look to it though.

I also believe that the car may look just a tad bit odd if you have the 05 Sport rear bumper designed by AMG. Keep in mind, there is a cut out for the exhaust system, on the C240, the exhaust system is hidden from view. As I said, the rear bumper on cars such as ours matter little to aerodynamic efficiency unless you constantly drive at high speeds.

Honestly, the blinkers aren't that big of a deal in my opinion. I see people with older C-Classes that have some aftermarket modifications to look more similiar to that of the facelifted models. I consider the job complete if they got the headlamps and taillamps. Hardly anybody looks for the blinkers.

Only reason I asked about the pricing difference was because you had mentioned that Tangerine was "shafting" his/her cousin, so I was just trying to make a point out that the price difference might not be that far apart from each other.

thanks drexappeal and patrick_y and to others who've helped. so i was checking out the c32/c55 amg picture thread and i did notice the exhaust cutout as mentioned. since my exhaust is stock and have no plans on changing it soon it seems pointless to have an empty cutout. it does look nice thou with the exhaust. i went for an estimate at clairs collision (located near the boston area) and got an estimated for $1149 including everything. i'll post pics of the rear bumper later to see if you guys think the damage is fixable so my cousin doesn't have to pay that much
