First Service A at South Bay. Gulp!

Im a new Mercedes owner and my time has come for Service A. Its a 2006 c230 and I have 28 days to go. I was wondering if anyone has had their service A done recently at South Bay MB and how much???? Ive read about horror stories about that dealership plus I have a couple other things for them to take care of . Peeling console, sunroof not closing, you know stuff a 2006 MB shouldnt have. Thanks in advance.

Well, again, should've done your research prior to your acquisition.

Also, there's a search feature on this forum. It doesn't always work extremely well, but it's usually quite covered on the topic of first service costs.

Be prepared to unload about $300. Steep, I know. But it gets worse, much worse. Service B is around $400-500. Your brakes, once they go out will cost well over $1000 to replace (my estimate, my brakes haven't need replacement yet). Need I say more?

Seriously, these Mercedes-Benz sales people must be very good at screwing people who can't afford the maintenance and upkeep of the car to buy the car.

I had the sunroof problem too, it wouldn't open very smoothly and close very smoothly in hot weather. Unfortunately, our W203 C Classes have a very poorly designed sunroof.

I did my free 1000 miles service at SouthBay, the service advisor told me it's about $195 for service A. Not bad price compared to Flecher Jones around $239.

I don't have anything good to say about SB MBZ. This is the dealership that gave me my car back after a service with only 1 quart of oil. I don't recall what my service cost, but I only did one with them. I won't even buy parts from them.

Considering they are a sponsor on this forum, I'm wondering if there is any advantage for forum members going to them? I'll have to check.

I forgot to mention. If it says you have 28 days to go, that usually means you're not driving a full 13000 miles in a year. Since the computer will say 300 miles until service due if you were driving over 13000 miles a year.

For the 28 day one, that's basically saying your oil is expired. It's been in your car for a year already since it was last changed.

$1k for front brakes????? Is that right? That's insane if true! Glad I got a manual, hopefully my brakes last me the term of my lease. How long do they usually last?

$300 is a little steep for a Service A. I didn't even pay that much for my Service B and that's with 9 quarts of oil for my V8 whereas the 4 cylinder should require less oil hence cheaper in price.

~$200 is what you should be paying for Service A.

It seems that $200 is the average for Service A.

Its kind of ridiculous to charge $200 for an oil change and check out hoses/fluids. Its like a "glorified oil change".

I think its better to find an indepedent MB dealer/shop that knows the cars and do service there, since MB isn't covering maintenance anymore anyways. Labor will be cheaper than what dealers charge...I think our MB dealer is now $115/hour.

It is way better to go to an independant service technician. I have had them done at the dealers along with independant and did much better at the independant location. I am in FL and they were charging me closer to 300 for the oil change. I believe their labor per hour was 175.00. I researched doing it on my own however, I have a C240 and it takes 8 quarts of mobil one and of course a filter is more than a typical auto zone filter. Only problem is that you can not reset the computer by yourself unless you get something for that also. I was a little shocked the first time also. Who would have thought that a 6 cylinger would take 8 quarts????

Patrick Y......Are you serious about the price on brakes??? Damn, I knew I should have gotten a standard! I know I am going to be due soon! Please tell me that isn't true! I replaced the pads myself not too long ago so I am hoping they last a little longer!

You can reset the service reminder yourself, it should describe how to do it in the manual

lol mbny, the term of your lease? come on thats what the salesman told me. no way they will last that long, if they last half my lease i'll be happy.
ok so why do they cost so much? pads are like $150 for front and $100 for rear, right? and do i really need to replace the rotors? i don't think i do?

The dealer will insist on a rotor change with all pad changes. In truth, you can probably go with a rotor change every other pad change, assuming you don't try to resurface them (not thick enough).

All respect to your knowledge RB, but not getting a resurface with new pads is a sure way to get feedback at the steering wheel. This is not good, and I'm quite sure your braking would be negatively effected.

If the rotors are under minimum depth, no one will resurface them. Its a simple matter of telling them to do what you want. If what you want is unsafe, they just wont do it.

My mechanic told me that they are so close to minimum even new, that no resurfacing is possible. I suppose someone may have tried it anyway and would know for sure.

At any rate, you could also get new ones on Ebay for much much less than a dealer would charge.
