My Prototype M271 Ram Air Intake
[IMG][/IMG]
I know it looks ghetto, but like I said its my prototype. I first want/wanted to see if it would even make a difference, before I start to spend to much money. I am going to use the factory cloth tube so it will catch any debri,or water that might get sucked in. So far the only thing I can notice is the car revs higher before it shifts gears when I get on it. Also I was able to do a couple of stop and go runs, but it started to rain. I did notice a slight difference in the throttle response. My next step is to try and figure out a way to connect both tubes so I can get dual ram air, if possible. I will post more pics as complete each phase.

hmm thats quite interesting.
next step. why dont you head over to homedepot or loews or any hardware store, and try using pvc pipes? since pvc pipes have y-pipes and see how that works.
One thing about REMOVING the dual pipes on the M112 V6s, is that low rpm throttle response is low but high rpms it seems to be a bit faster than the "ram" air set-up.
but today, im trying the original setup for another day.

You guys have to remember there needs to be some room for it to flex, because of the engine torque, plus I want it to absorb any debri or water that might get in it. So PVC is out of the question. Also I want this thing to look like part of the car. I will be ordering a new cloth intake from MB.
I will look into a way on how to couple the 2 together if it seems to workou tbetter?. I found some website that sell ram air couplinks.
I think the I4 set up and the V6 set up is a different , but same in concept.
I think my car is like the corvette ram air set up but MB just did it differently?
Look at the this for the vette ram air set up.http://www.southernhotrod.com/store/...roductid=16311
As you can see the ram air for the vette is short, just like what I am thinking for the M271 engine. There isnt much tubing to absorb heat. This is the way ram air is, short tubing, sucking fresh air and right to the throttle body. This is what I am tryng to do. The V6 has alot more tubing.
So far sound hasnt changed, which is a plus. The only thing I am doing is sucking more fresh air directly into the throttle body. I will be able to see how things go today since it stopped raining.

Thank you. It will take some time, but when its all done it should look nice. I will post pic later on. What year & model is your w203. I was hoping that your year or model air intake arms/inlets, dont know what they are exactly called, but I was hoping that I would be able to use one of those on my driver side inlet so I wouldnt have to try to figure a way to get the stock one from my car straight(it has the bend towards the driver side).
This is what I was hoping, but no one seems to know if they are interchangable. I might stop at Mercedes and look at some in person.
