Need Help With ESP
Hello guys, I recently had trouble with the ESP on my 2001 C200K. The car has 100K KM on it. What happened was I was driving at cruising speed and the car suddenly brakes! There was a loud noise like when you hit rough terrain (although the street was smooth as silk) coming from front wheels and the brake pedal is pressed down by it self. It freaked me out a little and I saw the ESP program not available lights come on. Then the car drives like normal after that. The light will go off when i turn off the car, but the same symptom happen again once in a while and the light is back on. I took the car to the dealer and they couldn't find the problem. I suspect that the ESP sensor is not working properly, however if that the case then I should be getting the error message all the time not sometimes. Anyone who have had same problem, please let me know how to deal with it.

W203 slightly modified
I recently became aware that the ESP control unit has been failing on some early build W203.
There are 2 kinds of ESP module. Before 05-01 and after 05-01. You can assume that what happened is that the ESP module slammed on the brake thinking that
- you were in a spin
- there was a skid
It points to
- the rear yaw / lateral sensor being faulty (I have a good used one)
- the actual control module being faulty.
- wiring damage in wheel area
- wiring failure in steering column
I would first of all look at getting the "ESP repair kit" installed on the car at the wheels and steering column connector.
These are well known repair kits. If the dealer doesnt know about it then I suggest you look at a different dealer.
