Just venting...

I went into my garage and noticed ANOTHER flat tire, the third one since June. Sure enough, a big honking nail is right in the middle of it. The first time it happened I had to get a new tire, and since then it's gotten flats twice. I don't even know if they can repair it again, since it has been plugged once. I am so P****D off; another trip to Discount tomorrow. There is so much d**n construction here it's hazardous to drive your car. Oh well... thanks for letting me vent.
PS: In all my years of driving and all my cars I have never even HAD three flats.. now three in three months. Go figure..

Sorry to hear this. My experience has been curious: For the last three leases, I had no tire problems until the final 90 days. In each case, we suffered one or more flats, due to nails, as the lease wound down. It was a pain but wonderful motivation. (Yeah, I know, it's only the tires.)

I too will join the fray and commisserate....

...on July 3, 1994 (I remember vividly, because I had a trunk load of fireworks...illegal as h*ll in NJ), I ran over a screw on an entrance ramp to the NJ turnpike. I got about a 1/4 mile before the tire was toast....so I pull over, unload an armfull of rockets and mortars, rip the spare out from under the trunk carpet and proceed to change the flat.

After completing the swap, I stuffed the flat into the trunk, piled the stuff back in and closed the lid. As I turned away from the trunk...up pulls Mr State Trooper, asking if we need help....

A minute earlier...and I'd probably still be in jail

C230 ~ C5/Auto/CD (on order)
which tires ?

I have had problems as well on the coupe... I put a nail in one and had it patched, the other just blew out at 75 in no man's land in Virginia.

I have Michelins... hate'em. I bought the same ones for my previous car and within 1 year I had to replace 3 of them... 7 tires in 12 months with 15k miles... not good.

Are they really soft because they are H rated or do they just suck because they are Michs ?

Margo,

I can relate - I am usually up in Phoenix during the weekends. I drive up and down US60 all the time - with all the construction going on - I feel lucky that I have not gotten anything yet. Except rock chips in the front wind screen.

See Garage
We have so much construction in my area, I've had to repair 5 flats in the last two years on the wife's minivan. I have a tire plug kit from Wal-Mart that does fantastic external plug work. Easy to use and I keep it, along with a electric tire pump in the van full-time, now.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for not using a politically correct interior tire patch, but if I had to run to the tire man every time I get one of these flats, they would have the vehicle more often than me. Plus, I have to keep my DIY car skills honed...

There is nothing wrong with tire plugs. We used to use them in our racing tires.

I've had great experiences with tire plug. The best was a few year back I was the manager of my son's little league team. We were in a rush and I accidently ran over a garden rake in my driveway. Brand new tires on the car. One ended up with two holes. They were plugged and the plugs held up for 50,000 miles. The nice thing about plugs is you don't have to take the wheels off the car.
