Head Unit or Speaker Problems
I have the original HU form the factory with the MB 6 disc changer installed after I got the car. I started getting some bass fluttering and static from the front speakers only last week and took it to the dealer. The tech cleaned and refitted the connections for the fibre optic cables and re-installed the software. It worked for a bit, but now I am getting some more static and it seems as if the tape drive is trying to engage - I do not have any cassettes. Has anyone else had similar problems? Does this sound like a HU problem or speaker problem? Thanks.

i'm having the bass fluttering problem with my "rear" passenger side speaker next week under warranty. after replacing the cassette unit with the audio 10, i no longer have cassette static issues.

I started having the same problem in my front right speaker last week, but thought that I might have blown a speaker. I just ordered an Audio 10 so I better get it fixed before doing the install or they'll blame me...

I've had the Audio 10 head unit replaced about 2 months ago when it burt out the front left speaker output.
MB just pulled it out, pluged in one from a sedan off the showroom floor, determined the HU was the problem & ordered a new one.
No problems since.
