Winter Tires - Rims Opinion!

Hey Guys,

I have searched the forum and found lots of good info on the wheels I want to buy. I am curious what your opinion is though on the following:

I am going to buy winter tires for my Benz so I can drive it. I have had it parked for the last 2 months and it has less than 2000 km's on it. I am curious if I should buy a winter set of wheels/tires or just switch the tires 2 times a year on the OEM rims?

I just want to make sure that doing this won't damage the OEM's. The wheels I am considering buying are the TSW Bremma's. Probably 17's or 18's depending on what season I use them for. I think they look hot. I don't really want to shell out the extra money for another set of wheels but I don't want to damage what I got either.

Also, are Kumho Winter Tires any good? They have a package deal that includes them but I don't have any experience with those at all.

Lastly, if I were to buy the TSW's if recommended by fellow members, where can you get the Benz Centre Caps for them and how much for the set of 4? Appreciate any input on this. Thanks folks!

If anyone has any input please use this thread. I accidentally submitted the other before I put all of my thoughts into it. Thanks!

Try a Blizak's and wheels from Tire Rack? You can get a good deal on package price. I don't know if they ship to Canada? What ever they have sold me has been great!

ya i would suggest either using your stock rims for winter or buyin another cheap set off ebay or something and put winter tires on. Having to switch tires back on after winter is a pain, plus it gets expensive and its not that great for the tire.

Thank you guys! One thing I refuse to do is buy some cheap steelies or something as winter rims. Which do you think would be better for the summer with the factory performance Michelines that came with the car, the OEM rims or the TSW Bremma's? Thanks again!

P.S - Your car is sweet Russell Stevens.

Thanks, I think everyone just likes the girl on the plate. If you use your stock wheels now which I believe are 17" and put some nice snow tires on them. And then get some 18's for your summer performance set up. Thats what I have done but I have 19's for summer, thinking that with H&R springs and sways I should have gone 18's. Because the tires are to stiff and don't allow for give in the corners with the suspension being so stiff the tires tend to loose traction. To stiff on the tires is not a good thing.

I was actually thinking of using my OEM 17's for the winter and buying winter tires for that and then buying the Bremma's for the summer with my Michelines that came with the car. That means I will have to stay with 17's though but I don't mind. I think they look good enough. Looks like we agree though with which wheels should be used for what application though. Thanks again!

Edit: after searching I am not sure they make the TSW Bremma in 17" which would suck. I have to stick with 17's.

Now I have to decide whether I want to buy the Silver or Chrome wheels. The silvers with the winter tires are about $1800 CAD plus install, balancing etc. The chromes would be about $2600 plus install, balancing etc. Decisions, decisions. I will probably go with Silver as they look good and would be easier to maintain.

A member who has his car on page 32 of the picture thread by the name of "ericnovember" has the wheels I want and they look sweet. His photography is also sweet too though!
