windshield crack
I was driving on the freeway and a small stone hit my windshield. I have a little crack on the drivers side now.
Does anybody know where to get a new windshield for a better price? I was quoted at 470. |

The crack can be "repaired" to stop it from spreading. A repaired crack will always be visible. My policy has full glass with zero deductable, which is well worth the small extra cost. They replace if the crack cannot be covered by a dollar bill. They repair otherwise.

I have 1000$ DEDUCTIBLE. I am screwd. The thing is that I stoped at a place where they fix windshields but the guy said that it might crack more while they are fixing it. Right now it is small. A penny size chip and it has 3 small cracks that are coming out ftin the margin ot the chip. I will try to post some pictures.

$470 is actually a good price. My parents got a crack on their w210 windshield and it cost them over $500.

If its just the size of a penny I would just get it sealed. I still have my long crack on the passager side. Some day I'll get it replaced.

I have a little stone crack too....it hasn't spread yet. My windshield is pitted now. Does insurance cover crap like this? |

Just shop it around, you should be able to get a new OEM rainsensing windshield installed for about $300-400.

Oh well. Thanks for the info Buellwinkle. |
I just replaced my windshield with the PPG replacement. The oem is PPG too. The part that was nice is the quality is the same put the tint is much better. I know I think the factory glass is very good, it took a beating. But I have already had some good hits on this one and it is holding up as well or maybe a little better. I paid $475.00, the oem was $550.00. I was going to pay the extra but my glass guy has always lead me in the right direction. Put new glass in the Suburban that after five windshields has not so much as chipped.:y So I feel he as given me good info.

I have to replace my windshield. When you replace the windshield, does the new one come with the MB signature card in the corner

I posted on the other windshield thread as well...this past weekend I had a rock hit my windshield and cracked it. Its pretty small, but its already, in just 3 days, starting to spider in 2 directions. Just got off the phone w/ insurance, I'm fully covered...looking to go to giant glass here in MA, and of course I would like to get the OEM no matter what...hopefully they can do it..
Immediately after this crack happened, my wipers began to malfunction, and still are...anyone know of any relation between the glass, wiper, possibly sensor or something???? |

thanks for the info, I'll stop by the dealer tonight. I'm going to have a service come to my office and replace the glass.

This happened to me once on my E-Class. I called the insurance and they covered the repairment of the windshield.

Is it a penny size chip/bubble/star, or is it a full crack? Here in Colorado stars and cracks are so common because they don't salt the roads, they throw a gravel mixture down during the winter. So you can imagine the stuff that comes fly'n towards your windshield when you're driving. Because of that, we have companies like windshield repair scattered all over the place in different shopping center parking lots. They go through your insurance company (by phone) and it doesn't hit on your deductable. You just sit there in your car while the person fills it and like 15 min later you're on your way....... the fix is that quick and nothing out of your pocket. See if they have something like that in your area.

What insurance do you have? If you have Geico and the crack is less than the size of a quarter they will repair it for free and waive your deductible.

I've been through 2 windshields in the last 6 months. Here is what the dealerships quote you:
2036702301 - Windshield 2206700093 - Repair Kit Plus $150 for labor which any dealer usually outsource. The dealer recommends the "repair kit" to shaft you with an extra $140. This is total BS as they don't even use it. After going through the same experience twice here is what worked the best for me: 1) Buy the windshield from oempartsdirect. I was lucky to get 25% off list price back in March/April when they had the forum special. You should be able to get it at their regular 15% off now. Duval is cheaper but they won't ship glass. My windshield came in 3-4 days in a huge wooden crate without any problems. 2) Contract your own windshield people. They will go to your place at a convenient time and do the installation for you. I paid $100 including a $15 tip. 3) I replaced my first windshield through the dealership and they did a really bad job. They glued all the black rubber strips and I had to buy new ones the second time I did it. The second guy told me it was a very poor installation. 4) Be there and make sure they are doing a good job. Hope this helps guys. |
Quoted me yesterday. $350 plus tax for drive to your door service. St. Pete Beach Fl
