opening windows and panorama sunroof with remote

I thought opening my panorama sunroof and windows wasnt working, but I figured out that if I stand really close the doors, and hold the unlock button on the remote down for a few seconds, the sunroof and windows open just fine. I know there are sensors inside the doors , but is the remote supposed to work from a longer distance to open windows/sunroof?

the central locking/panic work just fine from the windows

also noticed that when i got my car windows tinted, the central locking stopped working altogether . I think the antenna for the remote is in the rear window and the tint film messed with it. so if I stood close to the door, it worked. after a few days, the central locking works just fine.

i did not try opening sunroof/windows with remote prior to tinting the windows so I dont know if that has anyhting to do with it

I just want to be able to open the sunroof and windows via the remote from a longer distance rather than standing right next to the door and do it!

any help would be much appreciated!

2002 C230 sports coupe.

I have the sedan, but I too also noticed I have to be standing right next to the front door for the remote window feature to work...wish it worked as far as the remote unlock, my remote unlock works from pretty far away...guessing about 75 yards or so....

alymo 05-03-2007 08:14 PM

the unlock /lock works with both rf and infrared, the window/roof open feature works with infra red only (a small shiny square located at the rear of the front door handle) in order for it to work properly the infra red transmitter of the remote (front) has to be directly aimed at the reciever (handle) . sulight interferes with the beam and makes it less recievable so you have to be standing pretty close during day light. you guys are lucky my unlock doesn't even work further than 20 feet in both my remotes, and my batteries are brand new

mods4cars has a module that lets you open/close the windows and sunroof using the RF remote. It rocks.

yeuchau 05-03-2007 10:40 PM

it sucks that it only open/close windows when very close by your car
everyone would expect more from a mercedes, but I have to say, mercedes suck on this part

even civic could do better than that

Haha, you'd be lucky if you had keyless entry.

Where were you standing? point the key right at the bottom of your drivers handle and hold down until you want the windows to stop, you have to keep holding it...

You probably knew that, but just trying to help, lol :nix:

If you're coming to the ROSE BOWL Meet, come on over to my car, and I'll show you how that works. It works both ways, roll up, close sunroof or pano or roll down, open sunroof or pano. Also, if you have vented seats, it activates your vented seats. I have the IR sensor on both side door handles. I believe that in 2004, MB got cheap, and they now only have it on the driver's side door handle.

I personally do not think it sucks that they did it this way. I really don't want my keys in my pocket hitting something else in my pocket and thus rolling my windows down and opening the roof. The feature is there to either roll them up after getting out of the car and realizing you left them down or to roll them down before you get in to vent the hot air from the car. Not really necessary to be able to do it from 20+ feet away. But to each his own I guess.

Oh and my dealer showed me this feature when he delivered it.

kcheng86 05-05-2007 02:10 AM

I am at work and its voer 1o0 degrees outside, yet I ran out to see if this feature works on my 2002 C230K but sadly it didn't :(. I held the remote right next to the door handle. Guess its the heat, atleast my keyless entry is working

It should definitely work if you're standing a few feet from your car. You have to point it at either the drivers side door handle or the passenger side door handle (if your car has pass. side signal thingy)

You have to press and hold...keep holding until all of the windows roll completely down (only if you want them completely down)

The car wont be running because you'll have the keys in your hand......

Don't worry took me many tries myself...and I've yet to perfect it
