Dead CD Changer

Gradually, it just quit reading the CD's when you put a cartridge in.
At first it was occasional, becoming more frequent until it just quit.
Once after not working for a month or more, I hear this sound...
what that? Ha, it's reading the CD's.
That was months ago, and no worky at all since then.
I suppose I'll eventually do the aux mod on the old radio,
but it would be nice to still be able to pop a CD in.
Any suggestions?
I remember Buell saying he sent his out for repair.
Where would I send it?
Anyway to tell if the issue is with the
changer, or possibly something else?
I have Audio 10, and the CD there works fine.

This is in a vehicle where the CD changer was set up by the dealer and worked previously.
So, today I pulled the Audio 10 and put the old stereo back in,
still no luck with either changer. Just get NO CD CHANGER
when I try to access it. Doesn't read the CD's.
Last ditch effort, I took the trunk apart, and found the spare Optical Cable,
and installed that just in case the cable was damaged. No Luck!
Since the only 2 items that are on the DB2 ring are the stereo and the CD Changer, what else could it be? There's only one optical cable, (with 2 conductors). So it couldn't be hooked up wrong....it's the way the dealer set it up and it worked before.
It has to be one of the three items, and I've swapped them all, unless
somewhere along the line the ECU got reset, but a lot of other things would have been messed up as well!
My old audio 30 works for a while before coming up with "PROD".
What the hell is PROD? Is that CODE in German?
I'd hate to think that the 2nd CD changer I've acquired has the very same problem. I'll have to try to connect with another member who currently has a functioning CD Changer to test both units.

It's like it was when I first put it in, had the DB2 ring set up wrong,
but then the dealer fixed it for me, and didn't even charge.
Ha, they just put an optical cable going directly from the
Audio 10 to the Changer.
Then slowly, it began to have problems, occasionally not reading the CD's, eventually not reading them at all.
I checked online in the Audio 10 manual, but it's not the exact same Audio 10.
Not sure if there's something in the Audio 10 to prevent it from seeing the changer, but then I tried the audio 30 as well.
I had ingored this issue for a long time. The Audio 10 is cool, but one CD at a time, means CD's all over the place.
The cartridges are nice 'cause they fit in the doors, and the glove box,
giving you like 36 CD's at your fingertips.
Also I want to do the mod on the audio 30 and still want to be able to play CD's.
What does PROD mean?
you've verified the changer position adjustment on the side of the changer, ie
they (one of each side) have been set to proper orientation?
with 210s the changers easier to 'reset' by pulling the power such as the radio
fuse. your 203s seem to be more delicate in terms of resynch and resetting of
memories et al after battery cable has been pulled...then reattached.
presumeably, this has effect similar to clearing throat from lugee

Supposedly the HU is the master of the DB2 loop...
so how *** I put the old cassette, and Audio 10 in and neither works with either changer, even with a new cable?
Last step is to test the 2 changers...see if our old buddy in San Jose will let me use his car as a test bed? Ha....
If they both come out ok, then I dunno.
I called Becker in NJ, and since the Audio 10 wasn't used in the US they don't support it.
It's interesting to note that the switches on the steering wheel work
with or without the changer connected.
They're on a seperate circuit anyway..
Well, one of these nights, right around closing time, I'm gonna hit up Rick
at Rick's mercedes, bring a 6 pack of german beer, see if he'll help me,
hook up the computer, see whats what.
