Service B at 5300 Miles

my cluster reads "Service B in 15 days" and the car only have 5300 miles (in-service: 12/2005 & mfg: 06/2005). my first visit inspection was done at 2000 miles (07/2006).

should i have Service B done or request for Service A (and reset the cluster to read Service B for next time)?

what up man! long time no see on the board!

I'm pretty sure it does the service thing by date. So even though you're not at a mileage interval, b/c of the internal clock/calendar, it's calling for service. I doubt you need anything from a service B...

You live in So Cal but only have 5,300 on your 06!!!! That's nuts!

I haven't seen you post in a while either, so the low mileage is probably an indicator as well!

Service B is done at 13,000 miles or one year. If your dealer missed service A, shame on him. The oil additives are considered finished after one year due to exposure to the by-products of combustion. You should consider a brake fluid change at this time because it has been 2 years since it was installed. The reason for changing the fluid on calendar basis is not because it gets dirty, or absorbs water, it is because it absorbs copper, and that is not healthy for your brake system.

Make sure your servicer uses the correct Mercedes specified products for your year model car.

Hello again! For the service B, I recommend that you have it done, however, when the computer says that it requires another service A, just do a simple oil change and then have the computer reset. The next time around, it will require another service B, which I recommend you satisfy.

Mr. Phil is absolutely right, there is a calendar in 2005 and up W203s and the computer will request an oil change every year regardless of the mileage.

36K Today...

And I'm through my first: tires, brakes (pads/rotors), power steering pump... :-)

I don't think that last one was MB's fault. ;-)

My cluster is giving me a similar instruction on my very low mileage 2004 CLK.

I bought this car in April 2006 as a 2 y/o car with just 1600 miles on the clock. It is ex-foreign embassy and was mainly stored under cover. At the sale time the cluster ordered an 'A' service, so I had that done before delivery.

So now at 12,000 miles (and out of warranty) it is instructing me to do a 'B' service. Because of the low mileage I have decided to just change the oil & filter myself, and do the 'B' service stuff 10K miles later next year. I'll get the brake fluid changed then, and I will inspect the sparkplugs and air filters. I will not change them, as they are good for 50K miles.

yah, i've been traveling quite a bit lately. too much air time and not enough time to enjoy my car.

i'm considering what moviela mentioned hence i'll go ahead with Service B. thanks.
