I'm with Lynn. The sunroof is great, and lets so much sun in that it's great to have, even when you can't open the roof, though I go to about 40 before I'll have it closed completely.

Kwik, I haven't done any direct comparisons; I would think that the loss in headroom wouldn't be that much. I'm 5' 10 1/2" (gotta add that half inch), and I have the seat all of the way down, so my head has plenty o' room anyway.

I think that's when I can see that this thread started to get out of hand.
Renntech has told several people on this board (myself included) that it's a short shifter, UUC Motorwerks told Bos that there were different part #s for the mechanisms (I think that they know their stuff), and Lynn himself drove one after the other, and could feel the difference.
So, that's proof enough to me that they are different. I've got the C7, and it's been so long since I drove the base that I can't remember it. I'd still like it to be shorter, and have my fingers crossed that someone will step up to the plate eventually.

I bought the car for the sunroof, everything else is really nice, but the sunroof is exceptional -- big but not loud. I'm sorry to hear that not everyone enjoys it. Can't wait to drive to the beach this summer!

I'm a former convertible owner. The panoramic sunroof is therefore a must for me. Otherwise the transition from open skies or sealed roof would have been way too much.

well lookahere everybody - proof or no proof, it's a sweet shifter to me (perhaps after 10 years with a jeep cherokee manual-5, anything is...?) and you'll be glad you got it.

Oops, right - forgot the body-color door handles. C7 is full of goodies

Flashman stated it well. The thought of going from my roadster to a fully closed vehicle was a little bit too much for me to bear. If a car has to have a fixed roof, then it better have a sunroof, too.

How can the sunroof affect the headroom, the glass slides opens outside of the cabin.

I think you're referring to the "REST" function. It can only be engaged while you're in the car. If you open the door, it stops. It is meant to circulate residual cool or warm air, in summer or winter, respectively after the engine is shut off.

I don't use the sunroof on my GTI that much. With the C230K's roof, it's so nice even when it's closed. I even had my friend drive the C230k and me sat in the back and enjoy looking up in the sky through the rear roof. You know, it always feels funny when sitting in the back seats of your own car since usually you are the driver.

The panoramic sunroof is unique, glass roof from windshield to trunk and sunroof opening is 1/3 larger than normal.....Would not have purchased car without it. It is what attracted me to car.

Oh one other thing... The more glass you have the less you gotta wax and polish... Especially the roof is the hardest place to wax... just put some Rain-X on though.

Panoramic Roof GAP Question

For 2002 C230K owners with the panoramic sunroof.

Have you noticed any visible gaps between the roof's rearmost glass panel and the black plastic strips that are located to both sides of this glass panel?

There is some black felt on both edges. Underneath, between the glass panel and the platic strips, the rails used by the sliding front glass panel are located.

The two edges on each side were pressed against each other when new, now on one side, towards the back it seems that there is a slight gap between the edges.

According to the service guy it's OK , have anyone else noticed these gaps?

Sorry for the confusing explanation

Lightbulb Anyone else have problems with blinds in C-Coupe's pan roof?

It looks like my blinds are back to being screwed up. For those of you who might have forgotten, my front blind's tension roller needed to be replaced in my second week of ownership. Now it's my rear blind that's bunching up in the middle when I open it.

Is mine the only blind system with any problems? I've never been wild about the design of the thing, but I'm the only one here who has ever said anything about problems. I have to stay here today to wait for the windshield guy to show to replace it, so I'll probably go to the dealership tomorrow about it. Seems weird to not to have heard of any other problems with it.

Hi,

I have not had any problems with my rollers, however, I tend to leave them open all the time anyway. With summer coming, I might be closing them to keep the internal heat down. Hope I do not run into problems like yours.

Best rgeards,

CP

Tommy,
I remember the problems you had and, as a result, I have been "exercising" the blinds in my car about once per day. No problems in 4 months. Sorry.

Tommy,
I've not had any problems with the sunshade, but I rarely use it (and leave it open most of the time).
Perhaps you should document the problems in a letter to MBUSA. They may require a second and third visit to your service center, but perhaps you can arrange to have the MB Technical people meet you there while your car is in for repair.

re: the windshield - make sure they replace the "Manufactured by Daimler Benz" sticker on the right side of the window. I've heard war stories of MB's not star certifying used cars and losing value at trade in if that's missing (of course, that could have been a salesmonkey trick to squeeze down the price of a trade in).

Figures you don't close the blinds :p

Sorry you're having problems.

Actually, now that I think about it, I had that problem too when I first got the car. They fixed that one and it has not come back.

I have had the car for 4 months now and I excersize the sunshade almost daily wondering if/when it will mess up and so far, it works fine.
