Lightbulb Eureka !!! No More Brake Dust !!!

Wait - I haven't tried it yet but the solution looks very promising (sorry .

AutoSportcatalog.com has these Kleen Wheel Dust Shields that are custom fit and are snapped into place behind the wheel "like a set of inside hubcaps". It also acts to improve "turbo vents in the alloy discs direct cooling air across your brakes" blah blah ... Whatever that means. Sold for 74.94 (set of 4) or 2 for 39.95.

I think this is along the line of the metal inserts we use to line the stove burners to catch grease. Here we catch or deflect brake dust.

What do you think ???

While you are there look at the tire minder permanent pressure gage @ 9.95 a pair

I dont think they would work on the 17' wheels. They would look ugly behind the silver wheel, u wouldnt see your brake at all.

I had them on my old s class, it caused brake fade, and my pads were wearing out at a faster rate. Yes they did stop most of the dust, but its not worth it IMO

I hear porterfields keep the dust away, im personally going to end up going that route.

Used them for many years, no problems. Back when MB wheels covered the brakes it was great, now it would look ugly behind a C7 wheel, may pull it off behind a stock wheel.

Spare yourself the wait to warp your rotors... just pop them in the oven @ 500f then throw into bucket of ice water. It'll do the same thing as these shields.

There are no brake vents on our cars in those wheel wells - what little air is getting in to cool them is coming in the bottom and blows out the wheel - don't block it!

Get Porterfields, be done, no gimmick.

Porterfield = no brake dust = quite squeaky

if you dont mind the noise, go for it, annoying in my opinion, until i get my brembos, i dont mind cleaning my wheels every day i guess, better than all that noise...

I wouldn't buy it for the "turbo vent" capabilities... I have a feeling it may actually trap heat in.

Porterfields are AWESOME

I installed Porterfields on my 2001 E430 about a month ago, and I agree 100% with C230Jeff. It took a bit work to get them silent, but they're as quite now as the stock pads. And there has been NO dust whatsoever!

Whoever decides which pads to make OE on MBs should have his head examined! It's bad enough that the dust looks terrible, but do you all know how corrosive the dust is? I say "No thanks!" Porterfield pads are more costly than a dust shield, but I don't have to worry about overheating the rotors, and I have better stopping power to boot. Wish I had made the switch sooner.

It is a branch of the German government, the TUV, who specifies the pad compounds used on cars sold in Germany. All German cars have severe brake dust.

Actually, if installed correctly, Porterfields are as quiet as a mouse.

After driving my big rig around for a month, I got rid of the Porterfields and upgraded my brakes to Brembo's. I have less dust than stock, no squealing, and I have to watch my rearview mirrow when I hit the brakes!

EvoSport carries them for most every Mercedes. Porterfields are just pads, the Brembos are a complete brake kit, so be ready to throw out around $3000 just for the front, and most applications i think at least an 18 inch wheel is required. Talk to Ben though (Mach430).

What about Argentina, Kenya, New Zealand, does the whole world revolve around the Northern Hemisphere?

If you want Brembo brakes without the Brembo price get the C32 AMG brakes. I believe if you shop around discount dealers you can get them for about $650. Maybe even cheaper at a salvage yard.

In case you didn't notice - I was talking about countries known for making fast/luxury cars (implying that all these cars use dusty brake pads) ... Or do they build cars in Kenya?
