Plastic "chrome" trim flaking off AC vents and cupholder

I have a 2005 sport sedan. Bought it new in September 2004 and currently has 44,000 miles.

Today I noticed that the controls on the 2 central AC vents with chrome trim are flaking off. I really don't abuse this car, and what's ironic is that I usually open the windows and hardly ever use the AC.

Also, the chrome ring for the cupholder is flaking off, and the chrome on the button that makes the cupholder pop out is coming off.

Will the dealer replace these under the warranty?

As I mentioned the other day, the crown of my automatic shift knob popped off a few days ago when I shifted the car into Park.

This car is really falling apart.

They should replace the cupholder and the vents for you without question. I have read about the same problem before on the forum. Just make sure you bring it in soon before your warranty expires at 50K miles.

Do you use Armorall on the interior?

My cup holder is flaking on my '06 after only a year and a half. I assume that they will replace it under warranty my next time in. Never used Armorall by the way.

Armorall has certain chemicals in it that are not good for our interiors, or any interiors for that matter. There are a few posts about this in the detailing and car care forum...i use the mercedes benz approved meguiars interior to clean, ive had the same bottle for about 5 months and it works great! I think its around 15 bucks at the dealearship...

Interesting. I've been using Meguiars recently, and before that it was some Turtle Wax interior spray...but I've never sprayed on the chromed vent controls...

I spray the Meguiars onto a microfiber towel then wipe...its unfortunate that anyones is peeling away, I know for sure that would tick me off, hopefully you can get it all done under warranty...

I've always thought that any "cleaner" will just attract more dust/dirt(from sticky residue)....yes/no?

I just use it to maintain the deep black finish on the dashboard and various other places.

There have been many reports of how Armorall react to different interior trim and some about tire life when used on tires. I use the Lexol and apply it to the rag first. Doesnt have the real shiny oily look after. But it seems to clean and preserve pretty well. But I have just heard negative things I havent done any testing myself.

Better than that just buy the Meguiar's brand which is much cheaper than the MB ones because they are marked up a lot.

So is the Meguiar's Quick Detail spray, the same as the one that has MB on it from the dealer? Next time I'm in Pep Boys, I'm gonna smell the stuff...

They are not identical. The MB stuff has different colors and smells, but more than one guys that work on the Meguiar's line have hinted that the stuff is the same thing.

By the way, if you are looking for a car shampoo to replace your MB car shampoo which is like $10 for tiny little bottle, get the Gold Class. That is the equivalent main Meguiar's brand product and costs less than $10 for a giant bottle.
