Did the DIY today. Saved $150 Thanks again Taiwanese!

Removing the oil filter cover was quite difficult as I couldn't get my ratchet in there after sticking on the 27mm socket. Ended up using a cheap crescent wrench instead. Took about 2.5h, but next time will be MUCH faster.

Interestingly enough, my Mityvac only pulled out about 4.1L of oil. But then the engine took in 5.5L of clean oil, which was also verified by watching the real-time oil level in the Dyno Mode menu.

Since I'm pretty positive I drained the oil completely, my question is this: Is it normal for the M271 engine to consume 1.5L of oil every service interval (15000km)?

I used some type of extension on my ratchet with the 27mm attached to it. The extension can bend into all these awkward angles, I'll take a picture of the extension and send it to you if you'd like (just shoot me a pm).

My Mityvac always pulls out 4.1L of oil and to my surprise the car always took 5.5L of fresh oil and I verify this the same way you do. I asked the same question before (if this is normal or not) but haven't gotten an answer yet either.

Although, I changed my oil today and with a little more patience (friend came over to chat as I pumped from time to time) I actually got out ~5.2L according to my Mityvac. I put 5.6L in and after warming-up and running around I let it rest for about 4 hours. I checked the level again and it's only sitting at 5.0L now (kind of low I think, but no error message so far). Usually when I check again in another couple hours it will go up, how weird is that. I always wondered why the oil dripped into the sump so slowly (takes so many hours to get a "good" reading), it's like the oil drips slower than coffee dripping from a fresh brew.

Where can I buy the correct oil filter for my 05? Apparently everywhere I've gone has given me some other brands like STP. I can't find any Mann filters. Is there anywhere I can go to get them without goin to the dealer who may charge a butt load?

I recently purchased a Purolator Oil filter number 45514 as part of a package deal at a local Advance Auto. Opened the filter to find it's actually a Mann filter in a Purolator box, comes complete with the 3 o-rings required.

$24.99 for 5 qts of Castrol Syntec and a Purolator oil filter at Advance Auto Parts during the month of October. I spent $34 with tax after purchasing an additional quart of oil.

I made this purchase Saturday at my local Advance Auto, and had them order 2 more filters so I could stock up at this great price. The Purolator filter that is part of the deal is indeed a Mann filter that is stamped "Made in Germany". The oil is Castrol Syntec 5W-40 that is MB 229.3 approved. I will be doing my first DIY oil change in a few weeks and am excited to try out my new Mityvac 7201.

Finally did the oil change on my wife's 04.5 c230.

1. When removing the oil filter, I used the Crescent wrench as well and it works just fine.
2. I drained the oil and I have to remove the trays. I found it kind of "time consuming" so I am considering to buy a vacuum thing to suck the oil out next time.
3. The Mann filter I got from online store is the same as the one on the car which was replaced by dealer.
4. I put 5.25 qt Mobile 0w-40 from wally mart.
5. Overall it's quite easy since I have worked on my other cars before. I plan to drain and refill the transmission fluid next time.

I have couple questions,
1. How and where you guys use the jack stand after jacking up the car?
2. what is the exact torque spec for drain plug?
3. I also drained around 4+ quartz, so I am now wondering about "Dyno Mode menu" => how to get to this?

Found out how to go to dyno mode. It shows 4.4q after I actually added around 5.25q.....will let the car sit longer and add more if needed.

NO! Only the Mobil 1 0W-40 is MB 229.5 approved. No other Mobil 1 oil will meet the MB requirements (for a gasoline motor).

Mobile 1 0w40 is usually $6.99 a quart at auto parts store.

Sometimes they do a special for 5 quarts of Mobile 1 and a filter for twenty some bucks. I will grab 6 quarts and usually the guy will give me the same discounted price on the 6th quart as well. I then use the oil filter for another car.

After the car sitting over night, check the dyno mode again, it shows 4.9 qt and check the oil level WITHOUT using dyno mode, it says oil level ok. Does anyone know to which "level" the owner will see the warning signal to ask owner to add more oil?
I wish the car has a oil dipstick just like my other cars...

I am also at 4.9 in dyno mode after adding 6 quarts. I have to assume that the filter accounts for the 'missing' oil in that filters typically add a quart to a fill in when I checked the owners manual in the capacities section of every car I owned. Therefore, I have to think that around the 5 quarts in the sump is expected and normal.

I'm looking to find something that will allow me to perform oil changes, flush brake fluid and if possibly flush tranny fluid (that i'm not sure is possible).

I know you can get this power bleeder from motiv:

but i was hoping that maybe the other mytivac i put a link to would do everything (oil, brake fluid, tranny) so i would not have to purchase the motive power bleeder.

If not, is there an apparatus that will do everything or do i have to get both the mytivac and motive power bleeder.

I am the OP.

The extractor I bought only extract oil from the engine. I have the pour it out by tilting it to the side.

Above has one extra feature that is to pump out oil into container by using the same pressurized system.

I've done this with the pump and it took like 40 min of constant pumping. Am I doing something wrong? is there another way?...method?

If you pump isn't malfunction, you should just give it a few pumps and watch the oil flow. A few more pumps when flow is slow etc.....

Hi, Guys:
This is C280. There have five o-rings coming with the OEM oil filter box.
I can only find the locations of three o-rings in the oil housing, and can NOT FIND how/where the two smallest o-rings should be used. Does someone know how to use the two smallest o-rings? or just discard them?

The same filter has other applications that would require the extra rings.

Before tossing them, do check the oil dipstick tube to see if one goes either in the dipstick or in the tube. For some reason it seems that I was able to use one there on my C300.
