I have Bose but can never tell the change in sound. Always have to turn up the volume myself. May be mine came de-activated ???
It normally adjusts (rasise) the volume of music.. but IMO it over compensates.
To my knowledge there are 3 settings 6dB, 3dB, 0dB. I had my dealer change it from 6dB (stock) to 3dB. And 0dB would be off...
bchow.. i would have them adjust it... if play with your cross overs....that helped me a lot.. (music has less bass for pop music, but hiphop and rap are still fine)

Bose Audio Pilot adjusts the volume and, I think equalization, based on the ambient sound in the cabin. To the best of my knowledge, it can't be adusted or turned off.
then i dont think ive ever heard the audio pilot do anything...
if you are at a stop.. and loud trucks are driving by, something increase the volume of hte radio pending on the "Setting" of the speed senstive volume... ( so its not really based on your speed or mph) IME
with the sub
at 0dB setting for ssvc, the sub will not make the entire system louder.
at 3dB... if the cross over is tuned for a broader range of frequences then it will turn the volume up
at 6dB then it does it more frequent than 3...

I drove for 2 miles at 65 mph on cruise control with the sound at the lowest audible volume - this is to get my brain to register the sound and noise level. Then hit the button to lower the right window. Drove a another mile and I did NOT detect any change in the sound loudness. Lowered the left window and the result was still the same. I repreated the process this time with the initial volume at a higher setting. Still I heard no increase in the loudness that would compensate for overall noise.
Will mention this to dealer on the first "A" service. ALong with the window seal and the ubiquitous BAS/ESP malfunction message.

My question basically is, since the car is leased and it IS a mercedes (and most install places have trouble with them), can i install the subs and take them out at the end of 3 yrs without and problems like loose wires, holes, etc.
In any event, he can tap into the wires going to one of your rear speakers to supply a speaker level single for an amp. Running the power and ground wires isn't too difficult.
