C24Owner's cracked out 4MATIC thread

I think its about time I had my own thread. And what better way to start it off than a bunch of pictures of the car under the knife.
----------------------------------------

You all remember the accident I had a while back. Well this week I decided to fix the broken fenders (fiberglass) and put them back on.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...h/IMG_0849.jpg

First I had to drive onto some 3/4" MDF so I can put the jack under the car. Then the bumper and headlights came out.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1981.jpg

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1982.jpg

Brought the headlights into the basement and cracked them open and installed the color matched shrouds from my old bix.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1986.jpg

Much better :D
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1988.jpg

Had to remove the side skirts to gain access to 2 nuts that hold the bottom of the fender.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1989.jpg

Removed the fender, and fitted the fixed "lorinser" fender on.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1991.jpg

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1993.jpg

After some adjustments I got it as close to perfect as it will ever be.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1998.jpg

Same thing on the other side.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_1999.jpg

Few pics in the day light

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2007.jpg

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2009.jpg

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2008.jpg

And since I cant stand rock chips, I decided to respray the hood while I am at it.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2010.jpg

The hood still needs a 600gritt wet sanding, another coat of primer and a final coat of sealer.

Will probably do the painting on Monday morning.

Lastly, a pic of the front lip. Still have to do another layer of fiberglass mat and then paint it or wrap it in carbon fiber.

lol.. It went well. We went to dinner then went back to my place where I hit her over the head with a shovel. Then disposed of the body in the Hudson river.

Are those fenders the replicas off Ebay? So they don't fit well. Did you make the lip for your front bumper?

Yea, they are the ebay replicas. Fitment wasn't to bad. Just had to make the mounting holes bigger.

And yes, I made that lip.

Why is it that in the first picture you have the vented fenders, then later when it is up on the ramps the stock ones are on? They are subtle, yet have a great effect on the appearance.

BadAssC230k Mar 14, 2008 09:17 PM

nice job. glad to see the car is semi-alive and kicking.

Mu9enx Mar 14, 2008 09:20 PM

The first picture was taken back in September when I was in an accident. The car was fixed and the oem fenders were put back on. I took the old fenders home so I can fix them (you can see the damage on the first pic.) I finally had some free time and decided to fix them.

Not to hard to do. Buy a fiberglass fabrication instructional video online and play around.

You'll get the hang of it.

lancemb Mar 14, 2008 09:52 PM

lookin good. are you going to wrap that lip in carbon fiber? it would look sweet. :y:y

ggong5150 Mar 14, 2008 10:11 PM

I'd love to wrap it. I need to find someone to do it for me locally. I don't want to mess it up.

Possibly a Weltmeister quad exhaust and some 19" wheels for car shows.

After that, just save up and get a kleemann super charger or do a turbo setup. But that probably wont happen.

WaveyKat Mar 15, 2008 12:03 AM

nick when did you do all of this?

benz_addict Mar 15, 2008 12:41 AM

I'm going to enjoy this thread :) Keep the pics coming!

Mike, I started to fix the fenders last Monday, and finished Thursday. I took everything off the car, replaced the bix shrouds, mounted the fenders and sanded the hood Yesterday.

Its an H7 bulb. The oem 9006 plug will plug into the ballast directly.

shhh, thats my next mod.

Paint finish is flawless. If you look at the very first pic you can see the finish on the fender, and bumper. I painted those as well.

Thanks Robert.

I wouldn't mind gold wheels but then my car would look like Hersh's CLK. And we cant have two similar cars in the same car club.

I may just paint my current wheels a dark gray, kinda like the SL65 wheels and leave it at that.

C24owner Mar 17, 2008 03:04 PM

2 Coats of paint have been applied. 2 more to go then 3 coats of clear.

Lol, if she wasn't dead already from the hit to the head, she'll die of contamination from the Hudson... :word:
