Shock options...?

I have an '02 C320 wagon that I'm thinking about replacing the shocks on. I know for sure that one in the rear is on it's way out, and I'm assuming the other 3 aren't far behind...
It's a standard suspension model, although it has 22mm/16mm sway bars (I assume because it's a wagon), but I'd like to firm it up just a bit. Having a long history of autocrossing, I'm quite familiar with Bilsteins but I'm a bit hesitant to go with the Heavy Duty models due to the risk of ride harshness. I'm also toying with the idea of using the OEM Sport Suspension shocks, but I'm concerned that the valving will be even more out of whack, due to the Sport shock being developed with the stiffer Sport spring in mind.
I'm not ever planning on autocrossing this car, and I live in central New England, which has fabulously sh_tty roads, so ride quality is the #1 priority - this is why I'm not lowering the car or going with heavier springs. I might eventually go with a bit heavier sway bar package, but that's down the road. The only other upgrades I've done are 225/45's and 245/40's on 17x8 and 17x9's.
Any suggestions from people who've done either option above, or has another brand to recommend for my specific configuration? TIA -
