Best option for suspension replacement/repair?

So I have an '02 C230 coupe, and the suspension is pretty worn down. The shocks/struts are especially worn.

What ends up being cheaper? Picking up say, a Bilstein shock/strut combo, or going for the OEM shock/struts? I will be getting Eibach lowering springs. I'm just curious as to whether it's going to make a difference price wise w/the shocks and/or struts. Thanks.

if you are going to get lowering springs get the Bilstein sport shocks or Koni yellow. oem shocks will never work as well as aftermarket shorter shocks for shorter springs.

C320 Sports Coupe 2003
There is a bunch of discussion in the suspension thread about OEM shocks bottoming out with lowered springs and over time wrecking the shocks.

If you are going to lower the car you are better off doing both at the same time as you have to take the front struts of to replace the springs anyways. Why pay to have the same job done twice.

I ahve Konis on my C320 Coupe and the ride is much better than stock so I would avoid the OEM route. Bilsteins have a reputation for being more reliable than Koni's in the long term though.

are bilstein's rebuildable? i am pretty sure koni's are. not really too important- but something to consider. for what it's worth- i love my h&r/koni setup.

Well, sounds like the Koni/Eibach combo is a good idea then. Thanks for the suggestions.

usually aftermarket is cheaper then OEM, unless your going to buy the OEM's used.

When the bumps are not controlled, and check the shocks/struts for any leaks.

Push down on the fender at each corner of the car using your body weight and see how the shock reacts. If it returns immediately and bounces then it's not OK. You can really see it when driving. When you go over a bump the car will oscillate up and down after the bump instead of absorbing the motion and staying level like it should.
