US COMAND in Europe
 

Goodmorning folks, I recently bought a US Comand 2.0 for a W203 from 2001. (C180 sedan)
Can anyone tell me if this Comand can be used in Europe (The Netherlands) ?
Some people say it is the cd that will give me problems because in the US DX cd´s are used and in Europe cd´s from Blaupunkt or TeleAtlas are used.
Other people say that US cars with US Comand systems are working here in Europe.
Is there anyone who can tell me what to do before I remove my Audio 10 and put the Comand in?
If not then I will put it back on the internet for sale again.

The partnumber of the head unit is A203 820 92 89
The unit doesn´t have a TV button and instead of the SYS button there is a SVC button

Any advice, help or comment is very much appreciated!

hmmm... good question.
That's something that Steve (MBenzNL) can answer for you.

I do know that US CD's work on European COMAND, so I don't see why European CD's wouldn't work on US COMAND. :nix: But I'm no expert.

If your US COMAND doesn't work in Europe, I'll buy it off you :)

comand works...everything else "works"...radio will only tune into half of the available frequencies (no more radio 3 for you @ 96.2 for example)...no RDS

I just moved from USA to Spain with my GL320cdi. Everything in the Comnad works, except the DVD Navigation system. I mean, European Maps DVDs DON´T work. In USA Navteq sell the DVDs (MCS2 system) and in Europe are sold by TeleAtlas (APS). I am still investigation where to buy the correct DVD or what to do......???

in moving to Germany, my C-Coupe has EURO COMAND and my wife's C-Sedan has US COMAND.

What CD's will we need for navi in Europe ? Are the CD's compatible with both US and EURO COMAND ?

Remember the hacks posted in order to get US NAV CDs to play on a EURO COMAND. :slap::rolf:

yeah, I remember. But I've never had to hack anything playing US Map CDs on my EURO COMAND Navi.

I'm just wondering if it will be the same playing EURO Map CDs on my wife's US COMAND Navi.

I have GL 320 CDI buyed in USA 08.2008 . 530 : DVD COMAND Navigation .
It is necessary to change US Comand Navigation unit in Europen unit ?
Not possible to update or change only the received unit ?

I was about to suggest that. That seems like the perfect solution.

Try this process, but copy the new maps from your European disc onto the North American disc...

that's only for 2005-2007...
the thread starter has 2001 model...

Touché... I thought I read there was a different hack for the earlier w203 Comands as well?

you don't have to hack the earlier Comand if i remember correctly.

How come everybody here seems to be aware about a possibility to hack the US comand in order to make it work with European maps?

Could you please give some more info on this? I've been looking all over the internet and didn't find a solution for my MCSII unit. :confused:

It looks like you are using two different versions of the disc. Your file structure on each disc should match up, or its very unlikely you'll be able to mix and match files.

You need to get a copy of each disc from the same release or version.

But my problem is not have european disk same release or version with my US disk.I have European DVD V.8 contain total 8 files 3 big database and V.9 contain total 5 files 2 big database.

Your last post is a bit hard to read. As I understand, you have the following files:

Mercedes North America DVD:

Mercedes European DVD:

You should try to burn a DVD with the European files on the North American disc. If it doesnt work, try making another DVD and replace more or less files. Experiment until you get the disc to load.

It will take a while but this was my original method. I went through about 10-15 discs before making a working copy.

hello, is any news about working dvd for europe in US version cars ?

The GL X164 US spec MSC II unit with navigation won't work in Europe. At least, not the nav.part. Radio stations will tune in differently as well.

If you have the MCS II, you would be better of swapping it for a Euro spec 164 DVD comand. Do keep in mind that some settings need to be changed or some parts need to be added, all depending on what options your car came with from factory (i.e. Sirius SAT radio, phone / VR kit, back up camera kit, rear entertainment system...).
