whining sound when turning

I was wondering if anyone ever heard of a whining sound when turning hard at low speeds (u turn or parking)

I have no idea what it could be... and im hoping its not power steering related.
this is around 20k miles and my car is due for B service
i just wanted an idea so i can ask them to look at it.

thanks

It could be low on fluid, all PS systems will whine/make noise when low. I took mine in because it made scraping noises when turning left and they couldn't find out why but they replaced the PS pump anyway and that cleared it up.

Slightly low steering fluid was the fix for me when I had this problem. It wasn't even technically low on fluid, it just wasn't "full."

Are you turning the wheel and holding it as far as it can go? If you do this, it will make a noise in any car. I believe that this is hard on the power steering pump or something like that. I know that it isn't good. So don't hold the wheel at full lock, ease off just a bit till it stops making that sound.

You are funny, everything is powered by the crank pulley but the ps pump is on the plane that is the original size. I took mine into the dealer and they made excuses about the car being lowered but they replaced the pump anyway and all is well.

It's good you are having fun with Co Pilot, it is a cool toy!
