musical reverse horn
Hey guys, I just got back from India and bought a musical horn that my friend bought too. Its suppoesd to turn on whenever you reverse your car. Its just a speaker with a red and black wire coming out of it, so I assume I need to open up my tail light, and tap into the reverse light power wires for this musical horn to sound whenever i put the car into reverse....any ideas how I go about doing this? Thanks.

Are you serious? I hate them so much...everytime I go to India, I just want to rip them out. Especially when you are backing out late at night.
As for your question, I'm not sure how to wire them.

lol, i knew someone was gonna comment on how annoying they are.
They are annoying, but it just reminds me so much of home...and I guess in terms of safety its good to have an audible alert to others around. Plus the song is really good. Dhol Jagiron

I didn't even know this existed until I read this thread! Not my taste unless you can get the Ludacris track "Move *****"
Either way, I would say try and tap into the reverse lights in the trunk. You might have to do some crazy wiring but it might work. IMO I wouldn't try and mess with the wires too much as the MB systems are pretty tricky. Either way, good luck and may you enjoy your immediate fame/flame if you do this. I have a feeling most people won't be too easy on you about this mod.

How obnoxious, glad you don't live in my neighborhood within earshot. But I don't think your neighbors will find out either as it won't be easy to install without blowing the rear SAM a couple of times

It is possible to connect one of these do-dads if you can build an isolated solid state driver for it. The reversing lamps are driven by a transistor in the rear SAM. If you draw more current than the standard lamps, the power is shut off to the lamps and an invitation to visit the workshop appears in the dash. The solid state driver would only draw a tiny current that would not be recognized by the protection circuit in the SAM.
You should have bought something more interesting, like a marble pop bottle or a stainless steel lunch kit.

my uncle got one of these things for my dad when i was a kid and he installed it on his big *** Dodge extended van... let me tell you, every time we backed up, it was pretty embarrassing. Everyone would turn and look. That thing became known as the the ice cream truck...

if you love your car please don't put that crazy little thing that you brought home with you. as many of our friends here have said, unless you are in the business of selling ice cream then go ahead! if not, i can suggest maybe just hook it up to your golf cart...your golf buddies will think your cool!
trust me, as a young kid growing up in the Philippines in the mid 80's.... i have first hand experience listening to those annoying gizmos!
thanks!

How about a backup reverse gunshot for those who grew up in NY or LA?
