Puff of Blue Smoke upon Start-up
Hi,
On my Mercedes C230 2.5V6 Sport, when i first start the engine, i notice a blue/grey puff of smoke.... JUST on startup...
Car is a 2007 with 20k, so it's nearly new and still under warranty.. Not sure if this is the start of something, or just not to worry about it... Drives absolutely fine otherwise and apart from the initial small puff of blue/grey smoke its fine.... May have been doing it before without me even noticing?
Any idea's before i talk to Mercedes? I use either the mid-grade or premium grade gas ALWAYS, never the regular.....

Well, I'm new to these motors, but traditionally a puff of blue smoke on start up means bad valve seals. The oil slowly drips into the cylinder through the valve seals and guides, and burns out when you start the car. The leak is too slow to notice at any other time (as you would with worn rings)
Definately get it fixed under warranty because its sure not going to get any better.

I would not worry about it. Report it to the dealer & watch it. Also check that the oil is not overfull. My V6 puffed blue smoke on startup for at least 15,000Kms during run in. It never required any top up between services. Bit of a V6 thing. Now done 48,000 Kms - uses no oil & no more blue puffs on start up. MB use MOS2 coated rings running on a nicasil bore & they are hell to break in. Especially with modern synthetic oils. I believe it will get better. No chance it's valve guides or stem seals at that mileage. Drive it a little harder.
