I was thinking, perhaps someone hook a small fan (computer fan) behind the cluster to circulate dead air back there might help with lowering the heat and prevent the lcd from heating up?

don't think that would help because the air behind the cluster is going to be really hot too. now what you need is to redirect an air duct into the cluster lol

HAHA.. that might work and especially there is a duct that goes to the driver side windows, perhaps a little rearranging would do eh?

Okay.. I think one of the poster earlier said he found a replacment source from china that sells these new screens. I contacted him and he states that they made defective screens. So i guess that is a no go.

I did a little bit more searching and found a european maker who makes these screens. Doing a comparable from the china vs european maker. The european maker looks like a more quality product. Now, the funny part is this. It states its for w203, which checks out, but it says it goes up to 2002. 2003 and up models has the verticle screen. So I am wondering for european verson, does the w203 stops at year 2002 and change in 2003?

Oh well, I sent a email for the price and hopefully do an install upon purchase and see how this goes.

Please keep us/me posted on this. I've got an '02, so it should not be a problem.

CAI? Sorry, I do not understand the terminology there.

Anyhoo, I got a reply today. They told me it's going to be $142 ship to door. I am going to order one today and see how it fits when I install it. They claim it's a perfect fit though. I asked if they are VDO supplier and they said no.

This company seems to just replace cluster parts and replaces all sort of car brands LCD / CLUSTERS.

CAI = cold air intake

Some will change out air filter in the engine bay to gain more cold air so they get better performance.

I was just making a joke of CAI so it cools the display.

No. This is not the company I am getting it from and yes, I am aware about them trying to supply to the other guy who though it was a fix.

This company is from europe and I believe, base on their company profile, only supplies to the european market only.

Well, i guess there is an exception if you approach them directly.

FOREGET IT.. this company doesn't even make cluster display. Sorry.. Skip this message. <---- Waste of hard drive space.
But there is a company that the earlier poster tried getting a fix from that claimed defective.

Oh.. Yea. CAI = cold air intake. I used to have that in my integra. It does work though, kinda. Well, I think the major upgrade for that was, it make the enginee sounds more aggressive. Any faster = nah, can't really feel much difference.

Oh, yea, if someone can think of porting it to the back of the cluster, perhaps we don't have to change out the screens.

Okay. Here is a little update. After a week of back and forth with this european company, I finally got the invoice and made payment to them. They will shipout by tomorrow.

I will keep this posted and let you know when I receive it and installation.

Let's hope this would work and fix this once and for all.

Okay.. here's the other thing, I haven't touch this piece before and base on the installation details as provided here from another attempt by another poster. Is there anything I need to know so that I won't screw up this project.

Thanks.

Take your time with it, follow alex's directions which are very good, and if you're bending something and it feels like you're not doing something right, you probably aren't.

The best help is to watch how the old one comes off, and just do the exact opposite. The way to remove the screen in front is to pull the two tabs down. That's the most tricky part.

Where are you located? I'm in Ventura, CA if you are close. I've done mine at least 10 times.

Well...no.

I got one of the displays from the guy that got them from China and I tried playing around with it to see if I could get it to work properly, so I pulled and replaced mine several times, but still have the stock fading one. Let me know if I can help.

Oh.. Here's the update on some information I got from the supplier in Europe. This is what they said:

Where does these LCD are made from? Locally?

Also, what is the warranty on these? As you may know, we are trying to do a replacement of the OEM LCD that is fading from the outside making the screen turns black when it gets warm. Do these have the same issue? Have you heard of this issue in the European side?

Answer:
the problem about display is the same. Sometimes it becomes dark, sometimes the pixel disappear.
Displays are covered by a 1 year warranty and are made by ****, so they’re Italian.
If there’s a display that doesn’t work, I can replace it free if you send it back to me.

-------

So, I don't know if this would be a permanent fix. Well, I ordered it already and I guess I just have to test it out.

If anyone is intersted in getting this LCD replacement part. Let me know.
