Is My C230 Whining

I have a 2006 C230 with 25,000 miles on it; the car looks and drives like new. Lately, I've been hearing a whine at lower speeds. It is not real loud and I don't hear it cruising down the highway at a steady speed above 50 mph, but I hear it upon mild acceleration through the gears (7-speed automatic). I am wondering if the noise may have always been there, but I didn't hear it before because there is now significantly less road noise due to recently installed new tires. Does anybody else's C230 whine or is this something I should be worried about.

It could be a characteristic of your new tyres. These cars do hit a slight harmonic at 70 to 85 Km/hr. Varies slightly from car to car. HVH engineering is never perfect.

Do you notice any difference from trailing throttle to accelerating? If you do it's diff caused by some loss of preload on the pinion bearings.

My C230 whines.. but that's the supercharger.

With new tires I heard some low-speed whining. That's probably it, as Glyn said.

Sorry if I jacked your thread but since we are talking about whining. My car when I turn on the AC at around 4 (speed) I hear the motor almost sounds like it is whining. Anyone can tell me if this is normal?

Thanks

P.S. OP again sorry for hijacking your thread.

No whining from my HVAC system at any fan speed.

I really don't think it is tire-related. The original Michelins got very noisy later in their life and the new tires (Michelins) are so much quieter, I may now be able to hear the whining noise. I could be wrong, but the noise sounds like it is coming from something mechanical; it doesn't really sound like it is caused by harmonics. The whine isn't very loud. I have not had any of my passengers tell me that they hear a whining noise. I hear the whine both upon accelleration and decelleration, but I don't think I hear it when cruising at a steady speed.

I do wish the whine I am hearing was coming from a supercharger.

If there is something wrong, which I think there is, I hope it is something like a tensioner pulley.

I should probably take it in to the dealership and have them check it out.

I have a 2007 C230 that makes the same whining sound at lower speeds and stops when I reach around 50MPH,,, Dealer said that it was the power steering pump but didn't agree.. In the process of taking to a 2nd dealer for a second opinion....
