Exactly What Is This?
for Mercs that have the 'Keyless Go' feature [w203 doesnt have it] they have a special card in which they leave it in their pocket/wallet, and when you get close to the doors, they automatically unlock and start when you hit the engine start button.

I think on ours it's the sensor for the signal and on higher models like the CL, S, E, CLS it's also for the keyless entry.

couple of errors here.
The IR reciever on the door (pictured) is used to both unlock and lock the doors and also can be used to roll down/up the windows.
Older keyless go cars use the cards, but all the new keyless go cars use a normal looking smart key. Keyless go cars have a button that must be depressed to unlock the doors.
