Extended crank/startup

Extended crank/startup
When I start my 07 C350, the car has an extended crank. It eventually starts. Sometimes its cranks for a shorter period and sometimes longer. At first I thought it was just something with MBs, but my friend who use to own a 2001 s430 told me that he never had that problem.
It is usually worse when i start the car when the engine is cold. It is even a little shaky for about a second when the car starts. Its being going on since I bought the car earlier this year.
So earlier this week i took it to the MB dealership and had them look at it. On the invoice it states they installed new control unit software to fix the problem.
But the problem has not been fixed.
I am going to set up another appointment with them to have them look at it again. Additionally I figured that maybe someone knows whats actually going on?

It can be a host of things. If under warranty make the dealer fix it. If not please get an ODDII/CAN scanner & read any stored codes & report.

Its still under warranty so I am going to phone the dealer early next week and set up something for them to look at it again. Its just annoying.

I took the car to the dealer regarding the extended crank and they said they did some updates on the coding for startup or something.
However it didn't fix the problem. Every morning i start my car or when my engine is cold, I get a extended crank about 70% if the time. This is getting to be very annoying.
The dealer is now saying that they might have to replace the regulator. I did a search but didn't really come up with anything on what a regulator is. What is it? Anyways, I'm not sure the dealership is diagnosing this problem correctly.
Furthermore I hear a slight knocking/rattling sound coming from my engine now on a cold engine start up. Does anybody find that there engine does the same. I have the 3.5L V6
