Anybody with any experience with these yet?

LILBENZ230 Nov 23, 2009 10:20 PM

I have DDM Tuning/Apexcone 55w HIDs. Had them since January. A bulb failed in July, they sent me two new ones.. lifetime warranty!

advans Nov 23, 2009 10:26 PM

the Raptor kits are not as good as their apexcone kits.

I bought the apexcone 55w kit on a recommendation. Thought they would be plug and play without setting Xenon=Present. Installed them and they just flash on and off with the igntion on. Igntion off everything is fine. So I guess each car and experience is different.

out of 6 sets my friends and i owned, two ballasts (separate sets) failed. That's two out of twelve ballasts, about an 17% fail rate.

Weird. My car does not have xenon=present and does not have any error or bulb out warning things installed. I simply plugged it in and it worked right away, first time. They've never given me an issue.

judging from people feedback this is fail! but with the warranty its totally worth it for $30. nice find bro!

Must be, I only had the Apexcone 35w kit in my car and didn't have any issues with xenon not being set as present unless I changed the option to use them in constant mode (DRL mode). Maybe that is why you're having problems.

These kits are probably not any different than the eBay cheapo kits, and I've had one of those kits in my Trailblazer for at least a year and never had any problems with it.

Are these pretty much the same?

(That is where I bought my headlights from with no issues)

FWIW, my 55w DDM/Apexcone will work even in DRL mode.

aigooalex Nov 24, 2009 05:25 PM

these aren't just pnp right? do you need any eliminator cables to work with the headlights? like if you just plug these in... you won't have an error?

OneOfaKindTrini Nov 25, 2009 10:50 AM

So what would you guys go with in the option where it says color? For like a cool blue type color.

jcnash Nov 25, 2009 11:04 PM

So whats the opinion on these vs the VVME HID's which came up a few months back?

The VVME 35W kit works with no errors whatsoever (other than when using them as DRL's). Does this 35W kit produce errors?

Go with 8000K for a bluish tinge.

6000K is pure crystal white...just like the OEM BMW color.

I wouldn't go anything above 8000K...starts to get too blue/too ricerish.

Anything below 6000K and you're starting to get more yellowish...approaching stock halogens.

I have the vvme 35 W kit and it flickers. Gives me errors especially in cold weather.

One of my fogs went bad.... looking to get some new ones from DDM. What is the difference in the Raptor and Apexcone? (is it standard vs slim ballast?) Any info or input would help, and thanks in advance!

Lifetime warranty.... cant beat that right?!:nix:

jcnash Dec 14, 2009 01:29 PM

So anyone try these raptors (35W)? Any errors/warnings because of the change from 55W stock to 35W?

aac85 Dec 14, 2009 01:59 PM

how bad is it to use 55w bulbs in 35w ballasts?

it shouldnt be a problem rite?

Hmm...thats surprising. I always thought the 4300's would look more yellowish, but since most OEM Bix are pretty white, I guess I was wrong.

I have the VVME 6000K's and theyre very white with very little to almost no blue.

Let me know how it goes....Might follow suite.

bdgdl08 Dec 14, 2009 11:22 PM

I just purchased a pair of 55w 6000k for my lows per Matt's advice, and I went ahead and purchased the error eliminators. I plan to try without them and return them if that works. I am considering eventually getting the 35w for my fogs, who knows. I can't wait to get them.

aigooalex Dec 15, 2009 04:03 AM

do we need the error eliminators? i don't have the xenon headlights and wondering if it's a direct pnp for HID's
